Former #39 Patrick Voss - false messiah

It’s all pointless to go over but this is Blitz and all we really have are death rides and picking at scabs. Mass and Voss had shown more than enough, more than most of our top ten draft picks had for years, more than some of our senior players. Terrible, terrible list management in an era when the talent pool is diluted as fark. I’m going to say it…Fark Essendon.

Fark Carlton.

Just following this discussion, I guess these types of players are going to slip through your system when you are constantly changing coaches and list managers. Obviously they both need to be on the same page on game styles and types of players to prioritise. You really don’t see many players slip though the cats fingers I’m guessing because of the stability of the club and list manager being clear on what types of players his coach needs and will ultimately select.

Bloody hell people, he aint that good.

He’s a good player at Freo. His aggressiveness and swagger gives them something different in the F50 and pumps his team mates up. It is clear they love him.

Players that can do that are worth a fair bit if it is controlled and they continue to get the score on the board.

Whether that would have happened for us is uncertain. From his own words and the way Freo have put time into him it sounds like he had some issues and attitude to work on, as well as fitness (not surprising considering he was playing for us).

He’s fun to watch and I hope he continues to do well.

Steven Milne, 275 games 574 goals 2 x All Australian. The little cheeky bloke would have been a cult figure at the Bombers, we all would have loved him.

Won the bnf in the vfl as a forward. Weidemann got every chance they could scrape up. It’s another bad mistake by a club that has been making them for 25 years straight.

Cost the Saints a Granny too…

Well there was that I guess, but as a footy player Milne had unique ability.

Awful person and was soft, Bravado but nothing to back it up.

Nobody soft plays that many games of afl in that period. Obviously a rat but a brilliant player

I see those who agree with the Boss delisting have generally moved on from “he is no good anyway” to “it was the kick up the backside that he needed”.

If BS rated Voss, he would at least have gotten a game, regardless of so called poor attitude. That’s part and parcel of development, unless we go the Dodo mantra of only having kids from good families.

Voss showed enough to be given a game, and wasn’t so bad that he needed to be torpedoed from the club (eg Laurence Angwin for those who remember him).

Finally, list management, when building, isn’t just about playing ability. It’s also attitude, personality, influence etc across the team, a good mix or balance (dare I say that word diverse) is required. Can’t all be nice guys, can’t all be ■■■■■■, can’t have no extroverts etc. additionally, not every player has to be one that you see being there when/if we challenge for a flag. It’s about building the team over time, finding players to fill needs to help the team grow.

Voss would have fitted nicely in our team at the moment and assisted our growth, albeit he may not have kicked as many with us as he is with Freo, particularly given our forward entries, but we’ll never know.

A Dodoro recruit.

It’s more of an indictment on Scott and co that they couldn’t turn his attitude around, maybe that might have happened if he’d been given a go in the seniors

Put in the too hard basket and the ‘only’ option for them was to delist him.

No wonder our club is a mess

I was talking about the turn around in attitude, I still think he is a very limited footballer who is doing well with freos gun midfield delivery. Let’s face it a key forward who is poor on the ground and poor overhead is not exactly on to many teams wish list

In fairness Alex Pearce on the footy show pretty much validated it. Said I am sure Voss realised his professionalism had to Improve post Essendon cut

I dunno, in the last quarter he took a couple great contested marks (one incorrectly not paid by umpire), and also a lovely ground ball play, recover and handball for a direct shot at goal that was elite for a man his size.

No teams want a 30 goal kicker, either.

Goals? Eww, yuck!

Don’t tell them that, facts should never come into the discussion when you want to hang Brad Scott. BTW Voss has said it too.

As most discussions on Blitz go, there is very little nuance in each situation just black and white side taking and name calling.
