Former #4 Jobe Watson

Am i the only one who has no idea who this culbert person is?

Or why we are talking about him?

Actually I'd be curious to know.

No hand grenades intended

Why the fark would you ask anyone in here ffs?

I didn’t.

Yeah, I know, I can read.

Excellent

Why are you being a smartarse about it?
The question was asked by Benfti and was purely for provocative purposes. If anyone genuinely wanted to know what the players thought, particularly if they had such in-depth associations as the esteemed Benfti, they would ask the players, not an online forum. Pretending it was an innocent question is disingenuous at best.

And here I was thinking this was the Jobe thread… Damn Blitz will I ever learn.

Just asking, Of the suspended players which ones have been outspoken in their support for Hird recently?
I would say not many and if they want to stay in the good books of the AFL, EFC and the Board, they won't. After all, James Hird is the big bad wolf, isn't he?

Optics.

How many people stay in touch with their old bosses?

And if they were in touch with him, why would they want to give the media anything extra to run with.

Where can i get a similar hat to jobes?

It is. Jobe doesn’t talk to Hird, we don’t know if any of the other players do either, therefor, Hird really did screw the club and no one should be saying anything positive about him post 2010.

See, all about Jobe.

Take your soggy weetbix back to the saga thread . This thread is about the great man Jobe.

We know the players were extremely supportive of Hird right through to their shock when he stepped down as coach. The evidence available as to guilt or responsibility for the saga didn’t change after that point. The players have consistently blamed Dank for the program and club management for its poor implementation.

No doubt some of the players, including Jobe believe, like Hird, that he had to step down so as to remove the AFL pressure and media hysteria from the players and club. The idea that our players should reveal how often they talk to Hird is an invasion of privacy. Given the players are trying to move on from the saga, talking about or to Hird is probably not helpful.

Nothing to see here.

Where can i get a similar hat to jobes? MENNIST

Maybe you could get one that said ONANIST

Or ‘■■■■■■■■’

There is nothing sinister in Hird not speaking to the players.
Hird wanted to coach Essendon to glory. He was tracking well too.
Hird had a real bond with the players like very few coaches had before him.
Hird wants to move on with his life too. He’s moved overseas (I think) and I believe he’s also sold his share of Gemba. The poor guy has lost everything outside his family.

I’m not surprised that he doesn’t have contact with the players or anyone related to AFL footy.

can we talk about jobe in the jobe thread, thanks.

Ok

Did Jobe talk to Bomber Thompson, Sheeds, his Barista trainer or Tim, or only his dog before making his decision?
Answer - none of our farkin business.

Interesting article. Shame I sploilt it by reading the comment. Some serious idiots out there!

Aussie banker Jackie Funder opens up about helping Jobe Watson find his way back to footy

EXCLUSIVE: THE woman Jobe Watson credits for making the decision to return to football says that she was simply “a friend listening”.

Australian banker Jackie Funder, 31, opened the doors of her New York apartment to Watson as he took four months away from Melbourne to ponder his future following his ban from AFL as a result of Essendon’s drugs scandal.

The Brownlow Medallist said this week that Funder was key to his decision to don the sash again.

But despite being humbled by the footballer’s praise, Ms Funder says she believes Watson came to the realisation about returning to football himself, and she was simply “listening”.

“We’ve been very good friends for a very long time. It’s a demonstration of what a great guy and how honest and open he is,” she said.

Ms Funder, Vice President of Macquarie Group’s capital investment advisory team, is the girlfriend of former Essendon player Scott Gumbleton.

Watson, who worked as a barista in Manhattan, was taking in the world by Funder’s side.

She introduced him to her circle friends and they travelled across New York, all while chatting about current affairs, world news, life, and football.

The pair shared hundreds of hours of deep conversations on the rooftop of Funder’s apartment in Williamsburg, a trendy part of Brooklyn.

It was these chats with Ms Funder that Watson says allowed him to “open up and be honest” as he worked through his turmoil about his future, which ultimately led to the decision to take the field again next year.

“Nothing was off the table,” Ms Funder said of their conversations.

“Whatever was on the front page we were discussing — whether it was politics, refugees, the gender wage gap, the best restaurant in New York — just typical conversations that two 31-year-olds have in New York.

“He’s a super smart guy. Certainly not the stereotypical footballer.”

Watson was very clear that he saw Ms Funder as a catalyst for his 2017 return to football.

“I leant either way for a long time … Certainly when I left (Australia) I didn’t think I would be back playing AFL,” he said this week.

“I had to get away and think about what I wanted to do with life. I was really fortunate that I was living in New York and my housemate was someone I was able to open up to and someone I could trust completely and be really honest with and to be able to talk through how I was feeling and what I was going through,” he said.

“How liberating it is to be able to speak openly and honestly with someone and how good it is for your mental health.”

Watson and Ms Funder often talked about feminism and the gender gap.

And so, when the pair was wandering around Portland City in Oregon while visiting a friend and Watson spotted and donned a big brimmed hat with the word FEMINIST emblazoned under the brim, Ms Funder declared he had to have it.

“I thought it was the most brilliant thing I’ve ever seen. Here’s this AFL footballer in a male dominated profession wearing a cap that has feminist written in caps. I automatically fell in love with the cap and told him we had to buy it and he had to wear it,” she said.

Ms Funder said she thought Watson’s decision to wear the cap was revealing of his character.

“I think it shows a lot about his character. It shows a lot of gumption to get the courage to do that and a lot of self confidence. I’m incredibly proud that he’s the type of guy who would do something like that.”

Ms Funder had wanted Watson to wear it off the plane when he arrived home in Melbourne, but he went one better — donning it at his debut press conference at St Bernard’s College in Essendon.

“I was thrilled. An AFL player rocking up to a pretty significant press conference with the word feminist on the peak of his cap certainly brings the issue to the forefront,” Miss Funder said.

“The things we talked about were that a lot of women no longer identify with being a feminist because there are a lot of negative connotations around that word,” she said.

“They see it as hating men, don’t shave your underarms, burn your bra. But we talked about how it’s a word that identifies the gap between the opportunities that are presented to men versus women.”

She said they also spoke “a lot about society’s expectations about the roles men and women play.”

Ms Funder said Watson was doing himself a disservice saying she was educating him.

“He’s very aware of this stuff,” she said.

Actually met Xavier last night at a local pub and had a good 20min chat. He confirmed Jobe was legit not confirmed until 1min before he tweeted that pic of his dog. Did open up about a few other things which I’ll keep private, but I tell you one thing; we are very lucky to have a CEO like him that cares about our club as much as him. We both were nearly in tears talking about this year. Melbourne confirmed for Rd 1 too peeps. Get excited!

So… Funder or Fender?
