Former #49 Jaiden Hunter

I’m going to keep by powder dry until we get something a little more substantial. Langforward might have ended Voss and hunters careers.

You’re new here aren’t you?

If Hunter is good enough to play afl, he will get selected by someone. His career isn’t over, his career with Essendon isn’t necessarily over.

We are in the lead up to the trade period where we don’t know how many spots we need to free up. Every year 2-3 players on the fringe get left in limbo until the final list lodgement date. Hunter is the poor bastard this year, but that doesn’t mean he’s gone.

If he goes then I guess the Hunter becomes the Hunted.

Ok cya

Langford and 2mp can’t carry the fwd line we need a tall leading forward.
Harry Jones is ■■■■, Voss would make a better backman, so other than Hunter the cupboard is bare

Would be the most essendon thing ever if a player we drafted to fill a specific need showed massive promise in the vfl, was then ruled out for the rest of the season by injury and then delisted at the end of the year. Its basically everything weve come to expect as supporters.

Yep and galling if it’s only to free up the spot for some random list clogging flog.

Yes, you need a VFL team

Just because there isn’t an immediate need for him in the AFL lineup doesn’t mean the squad doesn’t need adequate backup.

Our lists over the past 10-15 years have been horrible, often the strength of our AFL steam has been a weakness of our reserves and vice versa, it’s a horrible way to develop youth they end up playing in two different systems never mastering either

We need a VFL spine
AFL: 2MP, Langford, resting ruck or stringer chained to the forwardline.

VFL: Voss, Hunter, Jones (all have AFL potential to develop)

Weideman should have a line through him as a forward, he should see out his contract as a KPD or as a VFL 2nd ruckman.

If the AFL hadn’t cut list sizes to save money during covid, your point would be 100% correct.

The spine should still be prioritised over the smaller players imo, for the sake of AFL depth and being able to fill key posts

This is true and combining that with the VFL salary cap for aligned clubs is the reason why our VFL team and competition as a whole is a mess.

They need a standalone reserves comp and then expand the squad to 50 with state league top up players, NAB/Colts and NGA guys filling the reserves squads out.

Aren’t there over 1000 players mouths to feed now with the women too? The aflw alone costs the competition over 25 mill in player salaries i thought i heard, so the cuts had to come from somewhere, unfortunately list sizes for the AFL comp.

Especially after being drafted Dodoro said we planned to take him with a long term approach in mind

The other point might be perhaps he’s told the club he wants to be home.

You are correct, but I’m pointing out that real talents like Hunter are the ones that lose their opportunity due to those cuts. We can see why he should be on the list. The club can see why he should be on the list. The list size might say no.

This was discussed months ago, but you can’t detect stress fractures before they’re there.

Well, that’s one way to put it.
Another would be “…costs the AFL in profits…”

Interesting he updated his insta profile pic to Ben Cousins.
or maybe not that interesting.

Maybe his intention is to go to WC, then Bitchmond, and have a great time inbetween.

That’s not actually true Weid has some good games early. Didn’t he kick 4 goals against Collingwood on Anzac Day.
From what I’ve seen of Hunter he should definitely be given a chance to get over his injures.
