and we have played him almost everywhere but his best position.

The strange thing is he was pretty damn good in his first year, same with McGrath and same with Perkins and Cox.
What happens down there at Tulla?

No Development Coaches that can develop players..

Was he though? Statistically he’s up on kicks, handballs, tackles & clearances so given how poor he’s been this year its kinda hard to imagine he was actually good in his 1st year as opposed to just being good for a 1st year player with little to no time put into countering him.

First 2 years were good, year 3 no good, and has struggled playing out of position in year 4. He’s a midfielder, but he’s back in the queue. He will never be a forward of any kind, but this is where the coaches see him failing most successfully.

He’s never been “pretty damn good

He’s always been “pretty damn average”

He always keeps his feet though - good trait for a midfielder.

It’s his disposal, if he was a neat kick he would be ok, but he isn’t so all the good inside work ends up ruined.

I just don’t think he has enough tricks as a midfielder unfortunately, and Durham and Caldwell are just way better than him as the in and under types.

I flip back and forth with Hobbsy. I think I’ve accepted barring a complete body transformation this is probably close to his ceiling, and that’s okay. If he eeks out a 150 game career it probably justifies the draft selection too. I don’t rate him all that highly but do think people do go a bit overboard on here.

Those guys are way better. My view is that Hobbs playing midfield in the 2’s would be better than playing him at half forward in the seniors. When a spot opens up due to injury or when we have a 5 day break, Hobbs would actually be able to come in and play in his best position and be useful.

We currently have Caldwell, Setters, Parish and Tsatas out and Hobbs still won’t get a gig in the middle. And why would he? It’s not like he has any midfield form behind him because he no longer plays there. I wonder if guys like Hobbs and Jones even remember how to play in their actual positions after being misused so often.

Considering we are at this point in the season there hasn’t been a contract signed does that mean he is gone

Hopefully he can get fit and get some serious midfield time in the seniors over the next few weeks.

It’s not just his disposal. he takes a while to get boot to ball as well. He’s quite a good handballer though (that’s one of his 2 positives)

Means he’s just in the group of let’s see what happens with contracts, draft selection, list spots etc. he’s just a list filler for the time being….

Don’t scare me like that again

I’m talking about his 1st season and judging him as a first year player, he played 17 games that year so he must have been doing something right..rising star Nom as well.
He was good n yrs 1 and 2 and then he just fell away Essendon style after that…

I’m not saying he was dogshyte, I’m saying that he was just ok & not really a standout. Playing 17 games in a team that only wins 7 games for the year is again nothing outstanding & not unique. I never really saw anything in his 1st year that gave me reason to believe he had elite potential.

Was he? I thought there was more than enough evidence that he was small, couldn’t kick and was a slow decision maker with ball in hand. Seem to remember him getting pinged regularly for holding-the-ball in that first year.

I get that we probably haven’t helped him by playing him as a HFF or fwd pocket, but he’s never filled me with much optimism…
