Former #8 Ben Hobbs

Tsatas, Cox and Perkins next year.

Huge draft haul.

Hobbs will absolutely dominate at VFL level. It’s a pretty solid get for Port Melbourne.

Can we get him back to fill Martin’s spot?

Nope taking Setterfield apparently

Hobbs is a player that will be too good for the VFL, but not good enough at the higher levels.

there’s no shame in that - good luck to him

Yet some in here think we will regret delisting him.

Bizarre.

He is good enough for AFL, but only as a handy back up type who works hard and contributes without starring. He could have played 120 games with us in that type of role, except we are looking to rebuild and list spots were scarce. His main issue IMO was that he couldn’t kick a goal from a crumb or HB receive to save himself, and so was relatively useless as a small forward.

I think so too - VFL is clearly his level. Ironically, very similar to Jackson Hateley from our own VFL side.

What’s ironic about that?

It sounds like Port will have a great party group.

Imagine the meltdown here when Port, with a bunch of delisted Essendon blokes, beat our VFL side

The whole AFL system passing on him says it all. Nobody thought he would add any value to their list.

have you seen some of the people who get a second or third chance at afl clubs ?

■■■■ jayden stepheson is at the very least trialing to get an SSP spot at port.

he was a pick what 13 odd only 3 years ago, what the hell happened to make the whole afl world not even rate him enough to give him a trial at least, again considering some of the absolute jobbers who have been taken or given a shot.

If he’s good enough he’ll dominate at VFL level and get a call up.

All of the Ports are just Lil’ Essendon…

Dunno.

Footy wise his lack of endurance and disposal was really obvious. Given modern footy need both of those maybe it’s just a reevaluation of his 13 position to non drafted if he was in this years pool.

But I suspect, with no actual knowledge, off field issues on top of that would be another potential reason.

It’s is a pretty epic fall from grace from pick 13 and some of the earlier signs, especially his first head to head against JHF in the rutten era.

I think he’s done unfortunately. 65 AFL games of exposure where he wasn’t good enough to play midfield consistently - I don’t think dropping down a level is going to showcase much we don’t already know.
