I didn’t see Ryder training on Friday. Did miss him or is he injured?
Doc Reid did say last week that he was sore and should be back for tomorrow's session.I didn't see Ryder training on Friday. Did miss him or is he injured?
Re Daniher and the body on body issue (I can't get quoting to work!!) -
I tend to agree that you are either good at it or not from the start and it is hard to develop.
Best example is Fletch. Never been able to win a body contest, even against lighter opponents.
TBell was strong in the body on body from the very start.
Hurley is another - remember that one on one where he outbodied Reiwoldt and marked, in one of his very early games.
Carlisle could be an exception. Not sure how good he was very early, but he definitely got much better at it last year.
Hooker has always been good, Pears terrible.
Gumby was heavy enough, but just couldn't seem to do a thing. One bit of contact just before the ball arrived and he was out of the contest.
I tend to think that Daniher could be like both Simon Madden and Salmon were. They were both very athletic and aglle for their height when young, but a bit spindly for the body work. As they matured, they got heavier and better at the body contests, but at a cost to their agility., It is probably the normal progression for a ruckman sized player, which is pretty much what Daniher is.

Some real Derpalicious pics in that gallery!
Cheers Dave!

Tredrea in his first game.
He did it to Reiwoldt later in the same season.
That win against Tredrea in his first game was one of those memorable wow moments.Tredrea in his first game.Tredrea.

A full season of Hurley down back with Fletcher is an exciting prospect for his development and the post-Fletcher transition.
I get that the switch is happening but id be pretty confident that carlisle is a better defender than hurley. remember this move is being made for hurley’s benefit because things weren’t working up forward for him. its not because carlisle wasnt peforming down back
In a best 22 I'd have Carlisle back as well (i.e. with Hurley) based on what he's done as a defender. Carlisle may blossom as a forward in 2014. Let's see. I think we are sorted for defenders, it's getting the right forward set up that is causing the disruption to getting a settled and truly functional "best 22".I get that the switch is happening but id be pretty confident that carlisle is a better defender than hurley. remember this move is being made for hurley's benefit because things weren't working up forward for him. its not because carlisle wasnt peforming down back
It's gunna be interesting to watch what Bomber does.
Carlisle is just a fkg good player, either end. I think he’ll be a very good forward too fwiw, but ive watched a couple of replays of our games from this year and Carlisle’s spoiling early on was outstanding. I was confident he could do a job anyone and he is very good at reading the play coming into defence. we have been crying out for a defender like him for years its a huge risk IMO switching him from defence
I actually think hurley would be better suited to being the second/third tall behind Joe and belly, I would have thought it would have been worth a shot before taking jake out of defence for good. either way it’ll be interesting to see what happens. hope it pays off for everyones sake
