Future Captain, with poll for your pleasure

McGrath might well be the most obvious dressing room captain. But, I tend to agree with @Houli_Dooley he displays a few traits on the ground that make him ill suited to the role.

Was beginning to think I must be taking crazy pills. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I fear for Blitz

I think people complaining about anyone selecting McGrath as the “obvious” captain is wrong. There’s a reason McGrath is the obvious captain (rather than the obvious best player). He is clearly one of the leaders of the club, and the young kids look to him to lead them. It is right in front of our faces. I don’t think from the outside there is anyone else who is showing that leadership, and everything we hear from those with inside contacts says the same. These other options and younger players can grow into it, but McGrath is the clear leader of the young group.

This was the 2025 leadership group.

So much hope in their eyes…

Yeah nah. That bloke holding the ball looks as if he wants to king hit the photographer.

Archie Roberts

I assume I’m reading more into it than I should, but he certainly looks the least comfortable….

Looks good with midfield minutes.

I agree, still think he will cop it.

Yes. And look what happened to him…

EDIT: I mean his career-ending injury, and not his recent health problems.

I fear that there is a possibility that too brief a period of time has passed for this observation to be made without some kind of unease.

I was referring to his carer-ending injury, rather than to his recent life-threatening health problems.

wow…maybe delete this?

If you continue reading a clarification was given

Would have to be the most uninspiring leadership group in the comp. By some margin.

We may have some future leaders on our list, but none that are even nearly ready for the burden of leading this club, outside of McGrath. I don’t think anyone here thinks he’s going to be a great captain, but I do think he’s an appropriate person to hold the candle til the next captain announces himself and is personally ready to take it on.

Perhaps Martin is ready. Happy to be proved wrong on him if he takes it. But that will be hard given he’ll be on the sidelines for the first 12 rounds of the tenure.
