LOL. EA dont want that sh*t…
EA would if they could monetize the ■■■■ out of it, but they won’t make it back - unless they moved to a yearly live service model?
tbh just give the license to anyone else at this stage
The AFL is small fry. Theyre not going to bother wasting resources on it. They barely even want to fund their Bioware division these days.
Best option we have is the current AFL game developer being given enough funding to keep developing yearly titles and incrementally improving on the gameplay aspect.
Id be happy to buy a copy if it wasnt so damn expensive. $90 is a very steep price point for a game like this.
it’s purely a question of money, they’d do it if was profitable enough
with regard to big ant though, it’s not a question of money - they are not good at making games and they have the wrong people in leadership there, they could get 5x the funding and it’s extremely unlikely they would produce a good product
What was the last NRL game?
NRL specifically appears to be 2017, though one is apparently coming this year (also from big ant).
EA will never touch it. When they make a game, they dont want to make a small investment that makes some money. They want to make ALL OF THE MONEY. and theyre just not going to invest in an extremely niche game that is only going to be played in a few states in Australia.
You might be correct on Big Ant. But the only way i see us getting ourselves a better game is letting the same studio build on their current formula and keep making improvements. There wouldn’t be many game studios out there willing to actually have a crack at it.
That’s what I was saying though, if it would make them enough money they’d do it
I just think the fundamental game Big Ant is making is built on a flawed engine and doesn’t have enough good talent to get it to a great level. It’ll forever be a middling game - which is probably good enough for a chunk of its core audience
I wonder if there would actually be much difference difference in sales numbers if they produced a great game rather than a mediocre one. I suspect they would not sell enough additional copies to move the needle in any way, which means there’s no motivation to do so even if they could.
I took the plunge and bought it anyway.
Definitely some bugs and jank, but an improvement on the 15 minutes I spent playing Afl23.
I like that they added player career mode, just a shame some of it is so half arsed.
You start by playing though the champs, but no matter how you perform you go pick 1.
No performance ratings at all.
It tracks stats, but combines them for all games at any level, and just shows totals rather than season breakdowns/averages/etc.
Actual gameplay is pretty fun, but they really need to work on camera angles (which they’re apparently doing ATM).
Merretts rating is a travesty.
Yeah, but it will never have a broad enough appeal for them to greenlight something like this. a game like It Takes Two has a far lower budget than the usual EA release, but it has a broad, worldwide appeal where anyone can play it. No ones interested in AFL outside of Australia. Its an absolute non-starter.
I’m not disagreeing with you, my point was EA is greedy and if they thought they would make enough money off it they would
It’s not a profitable game to invest in obviously, which is why we get big ant. That said, I’m utterly convinced a better studio could do more with less
