Garry Lyon on SEN, James Hird Not.. Yet

Whatever Jim decides to do is fine by me. Still won’t be listening to that dog of a station though after the ■■■■■ they dished up about Essendon over the llast four years.

FALLEN footy great James Hird is in secret talks over a shock return to the game.

The former Essendon coach is in discussions about pairing up with exiled former Footy Show host Garry Lyon on SEN radio.

Lyon is making his own comeback to football after battling mental illness and fall out from his relationship with Billy Brownless’s ex-wife, Nicky.

The surprise move would see Hird and Lyon team up on SEN’s Friday night football coverage and occasionally on Lyon’s new weekday SEN breakfast show.

A meeting was held earlier this week but the network is weighing up whether combining football’s two highest-profile bad boys could alienate its audience.

A rival station has also sought Hird’s signature just 16 months after his messy departure as Bombers coach.

Hird, 43, was a star media performer with Fox Footy before taking on the Essendon coaching job in 2011.

He plans on living permanently in Melbourne despite his burgeoning overseas business interests.

Hird’s career came crashing down after the Essendon 2012 supplements saga which resulted in him being suspended by the AFL for 12 months for bringing the game into disrepute.

Despite this he still negotiated a new contract extension with the Bombers and then returned as senior coach in 2015.

Hird, who coached Essendon into the finals in his first season, struggled on his return and was forced to resign after the Bombers humiliating 112-point loss to Adelaide in Round 20.

He will avoid having to call his old club until the second half of the season with Essendon only having two Friday night games in 2017.

Lyon has been active behind the scenes in organising his own return to the airwaves at SEN, the station he helped launch in 2004.

While the all-star breakfast show line-up has yet to be finalised, Lyon will be joined by Essendon champion Tim Watson with SEN also keen to get Channel Seven’s Hamish McLachlan.

Former Herald Sun chief football writer Mike Sheahan could also play a role.

This week Lyon confirmed his return to television in 2017 on Footy Classified.

He won’t be returning to his former role as Footy Show host where he was replaced by Rebecca Maddern

My recollection was that Hirdy never agreed to a 12 month suspension “for bringing the game into disrepute”. The MSM keep trying to paint him as a villian.

If Wayne Carey can do Friday night football with no one acting like he's human waste then Hirdy can do radio.

I love listening to Wayne Carey. Couldn’t give a stuff about his personal life, his football knowledge and insight is awesome. Same as Dermott.

He smashed a beer glass in a woman’s face, didn’t he?

I believe he did.

You do all realise this is an AFL town, don’t you?

Hirdy will need to apply for an AFL Media Accreditation Request

How do you think that will go?

What’s an SEN?

I don't get the hate toward media types. It's their job to say things and have an opinion. Unless you're N Balme. He spends an hour each week not saying anything.
Funny, I don't get the love toward media types... Even before 'the saga' they were ruining the game. After the saga they just proved they were the propaganda outlet for the afl. I ■■■■■■■ hate them... with a handful of exceptions. I used to listen to SEN a bit... Not anymore. Would be very surprised if James Hird joined the motley crew at sen.

Let’s be honest.
This would be about ratings for SEN. They know how polarising Hird is now and how much passion he evokes in people that has absolutely nothing to do with his opinions on footy.
Now if he can use that to advantage to quicken a transition back into semi-public life then good on him.
The media is fickle. Integrity typically takes a back seat to popularity and self-preservation.

Channel 7 doesn’t have talkback.

I believe it was a wine glass. I don’t know what year the wine was, but something pretty sophisticated I’d imagine.

With no problems at all.
The fight is over for all realistic intents and purposes.

I really really really don’t know what to think about this. So many different aspects to it.

Really doubt it’d happen though.

Not sure about the love. They're just, there. And who cares what they think? Does anyone care what we think? Nope Getting emotional over what some dork on the radio says or what is written in the papers or elsewhere is a little mental.

Welcome to the asylum.

Today’s media is as much a danger to our civilisation as anything else out there, in my opinion.

It’s taken them 4 years to figure out why podcasts of Tim Watson and Scott Lucas attract the biggest download numbers.

I care when they lie and deliberately push an agenda designed to portray Ess in the worst possible light and do maximum damage to the club - 'cause that is what their bosses (afl) pay them to do.
However, leaving that aside… I find their ■■■■■■■ bs very annoying - ex footballers with ego’s the size of the mcg are booring.
I just want people who are capable of having objective thought and competence call the game.

Great move sen. i will try and tune in. He was great on fox before his coaching stint. Whats bomber doing next year still with caro is that 3AW?

So this was the ‘significant career opportunity’ Fitzpatrick was talking about? FMD.
