I’ll give the coach some credit today and for to say that is something !

getting wright and Langford out of the forward line made us look more dangerous

Wright in the ruck was great

Langford did what he had to do.

McGrath actually stuck at his task for the whole game .

Reid backing up was a huge plus

Same effort each week is needed

Looking at them now. A real chance!

I’m happy for Matty for once he gets to talk about how good Essendon was instead of how crap we been every week

You’d think Gary Lyon was a bombers fan he seemed to love the win against his own club.

Essendon finally breaks losing streak with 45-point Gather Round victory over Melbourne

Essendon’s 17-match losing streak is over, with Brad Scott’s side running all over an in-form Melbourne in the second half at Adelaide Oval. And it wasn’t just the kids.

The long, agonising wait for a win is over for Essendon fans after an inspired Bombers outfit snapped a club record 17-game losing streak with a remarkable Gather Round upset over Melbourne.

The Dons, led by a starring Archie Roberts, who had a career high 40 disposals, 14 marks and a goal off of half-back, booted 11 goals to two in the second half to seal a big 17.11 (113) to 10.8 (68) win at Adelaide Oval.

Melbourne had the early ascendancy and looked set to cruise to a comfortable lead in the second term inspired by a huge chase down tackle and goal by Kozzie Pickett to start a mini run, which saw the Demons take a four-kick lead, but the Dons would up their pressure and take advantage of a number of miscues by their opponent to trail by just a kick at half time.

What would follow would be an onslaught not seen by Essendon fans for over a year as their side, inspired by the likes of Roberts and Merrett in the contest and an electric and creative Isaac Kako up front, kicked 11 of the last 13 majors of the game to seal a famous victory in front of a raucous travelling crowd.

While it was a game to remember for Brad Scott’s young Essendon side, it was one Steven King would want to quickly forget as he watched a number of Demons fail to execute in possession.

Heading into the game as the hot favourite after tallying three wins to sit in seventh spot on the ladder, Melbourne produced a huge 22 clangers, 19 by foot, in the first half and could never recapture the momentum they built early as

The Dees, possibly disheartened by their inability to keep the footy or win it consistently enough at the source, dropped their intensity in the final term as the Bombers maintained theirs and took clear advantage, with Merrett, Caddy and Duursma all producing big moments to boot their underdog team to an insurmountable lead.

The Bombers will aim to add to the momentum gained from the Gather Round win when they take on Gold Coast away next week, while the Demons will be left to lick their wounds before hosting reigning back-to-back premier Brisbane.
