She is a hopeless centre bouncer.
But all the umps reverted to throwing the ball up in the last.
I rally don’t have a problem with poor centre bounces. It’s the recall that annoys me.
The team coming off the bye usually struggles.
Well, historically that was the case.
What a great win.
Watching Reid cruising around the backline is a thing of beauty.
Just wasn’t though.
Can’t blame hindsight because Melbourne’s future first was always part of the deal so it was going to take some time to see the deal in it’s entirety.
Turns out it was (likely) even better than at the time, and it was a good deal then too.
Didn’t realise but on replay the best thing about this is Gary Lyon having to commentate.
I still think we make far too many unforced errors …the good teams will punish us more than a team like Melbourne could . I’ll watch again but I recall especially the 3rd quarter how many times we turned it over with centre clearance handball , we can do that as much as we did against bettee teams . kicking not too bad but still make errors when not under pressure . gotta drill them harder on skills , it’s not even a judgement or pressure issue just skill drops of for chunks of the game , perhaps it’s just a slip in the level of focus
To be honest Tezz as I mentioned last week after the Geelong game, it’s Melbourne’s style of play at min…Geelong looked as sloppy as I have seen at home in recent years…Melb are short of skill, confidence or any type of forward line so they play an U12 everyone around the ball style game.
It’s damage control. For that reason alone I wouldn’t be overly concerned about our mistakes last night…always nice to clean things up though.
Morning after thoughts are still the same as last night. So pleasing that the 4 goal run they had didn’t turn into a 6,7 or 8 goal run like it has many times before.
The senior players showed a level of maturity that outside Merrett I didn’t think they had.
Did El Hawli mark one on the behind line that was called a point?
Melbourne are 5.8 in last quarters across the whole season. Wow.
She is just an all round terrible umpire
Played mostly half forward last night and looked a lot better for it I thought
Mick Ablett would be thrilled anyone is still thinking about him.
We’ve got a long way to go, but you can start to see the future crop growing together. Reid, Roberts, Caddy, Kako. Been a while since we’ve had that feeling.
Also Draper is so important. Reckon they gave him a spell in the third so spare some energy without Bryan to chop out. That was when Melbourne got back in the game.
When Draper was on the ground it rucking it felt like we had everyone well under control.
Only because their little darlings the Gold Coast suns wanted a fully red strip.
Credit where it’s due.
You had faith in the team to beat a ■■■■■ opponent when many of us didn’t.
Re watching the game this morning & I’m enjoying the pain in Gary Lyon’s voice.
Is that wrong?
NO.
She can’t umpire either.
I liked that we actually stood up to Melbourne when they got physical. Too often we have let teams bully us.
