Maybe they’re trying to boil it down to some rogue actions by a select few, which absolves the club from sanctions but punishes the individuals

I mean, this letter and reporting provides absolutely zero indication of the likely outcome.
Screams of an attempt to de-escalate the situation, which is definitely not going to work. This is the literal tip of the iceberg.

So they’ve lodged a conditional contract that bypasses the CBA and didn’t disclose of it to the governing body or the players association.
Jay Clark breaks a story about it, the club gets named. Geelong then contact the AFL and say sorry we got caught, we’ll rescind the waiver.
The AFL then goes ahh cheeky Geelong, all good. Please enjoy playing Essendon, North and Richmond on your run home whilst you struggle to remain in the 8.
If that isn’t blatant corruption then I’ll be damned.

I don’t think the AFL realise that clubs won’t let this one slide.
If I’m Andrew Welsh I’m calling HQ and demanding a full investigation. It’s the very least that can happen.

AFL more or less no penalty, the cats will remove the waiver.

WorkSafe have a nasty habit of excusing this sort of thing.
Hocking said the player wasn’t directed to retire given his concussion history, saying the letter had the “intention to give the player agency in the decision making process around their own playing career”.

Geelong has not been sanctioned but the AFL has warned future agreements like the one they struck with a current player, who has suffered multiple concussions, waiving “some legal rights” for future brain injuries sustained on the field must be approved first.
You cannot legally sign away workplace safety protections.
