This is a key point. Geelong’s legal team would have had eyes on this at the very least. And if they didn’t, why? Why would Geelong tell a player that they were likely to be delisted and then seek to enter into an illegal and unenforceable contract, to indemnify themselves from future adverse action if they chose not to delist him? Why would they then seek to hide the contract from the AFL and the AFLPA? If their legal team advised against it, why did the contract get drawn up and agreed too? And if the legal team rubber stamped it, are they fit to keep their jobs?

Intent matters here a great deal. Geelong sought to enter into an illegal unenforceable contract that would, were it at all legal or enforceable, contravene the employees rights.
It wasn’t a contract. It was a “signed letter of acknowledgement”
I bet no other club forum is more active on this bit of info than us bombers.

The acknowledgment being that the player cannot seek compensation from the club in the event that they experience future adverse outcomes related to his concussions? That sounds like asking the player to sign an agreement to me.

we’ve been traumatised by this kind of bullshit in the past and now we’re overly sensitive to it (and the inaction feels doubly unfair given… the everything).

I haven’t looked at the timelines, was the player named in the recent premiership side, and is there a suggestion that this agreement existed prior to that flag year?
I’m asking this specifically because I’d love to understand any effect this has had on gambling odds?
It’d be very interesting to have a clear view on any bets placed by family and friends relating to that player, with their knowledge of the deal.
