It also needs expertise on how best to do this. The current lot have no fkn idea. Poach someone who worked with Matilda’s or women’s cricket. They nailed it.
There is a really good product there, especially as we get to cohorts of girls who have followed similar talent identification/development pathways to the boys. If the next few years can be done right, it’ll be set up to be self sustaining.
Kodi Jacques, Lily-Rose Williamson and Paige Scott seemed to be on limited duties, with just some handballing, shots on goal and laps around the ground.
Georgia Nanscawen had the beanie and jacket on and didn’t take part - right calf niggle back again.
All three played in the VFLW this year. I have Gough and Adams able to slot straight into the AFLW team (across a wide range of positions), but Gaylor would initially be a balance consideration (i.e. is our “Best 21” still too slow?)
With AFLW leadership squads, I presume they all have other jobs on the go right, I suspect it’s as much an “are you going to have the time to attend meetings” thing as it is a “we think you are best positioned to be in the leadership group” thing.
They’ll both be leaders around the group anyway. It’s just how they approach playing footy.
Okay, throwing it out there again, I’m in melbourne after a 5 year absence for a holiday with my daughters and desperately want them to see our AFLW team in action. Does anyone know when the girls are training or if the practice match at Caulfield grammar is open to the public??
Thanks in advance!
