Along with Essendon’s vacancy, Geelong still has two list spots remaining, while St Kilda has one. Pre-season begins on Monday, but clubs can sign replacement players up until the start of the season (week beginning August 11).
Not sure if any current (or future top-up?) AFLW players affected. We do know that the shifting forward of this year’s season has already been problematic for those trying to do both sports.
State of Play stating a Norf Werribee player was pulled as she has been signed as an AFLW top-up (and is not Tessa Boyd). We are a one-fourth (?, I’ve lost track) chance of being the destination.
Per their description, it would be one of the below?
- Reese Sutton (ex-EFC VFLW, gun) - out this past weekend
- Caitlin Fletcher (ex-GWS) - out last week
- Matilda Zander (27yo, collects B&Fs for fun) - out last week
EDIT: have to check if they explicitly said was pulled OR if “debut was prevented” is also possible: e.g. Jacqui Vogt could match the latter.
EDIT 2: was presumably referring to Fletcher (listed as “unavailable”) over Zander (“omitted”). Is odd that there hasn’t been an ANNOUNCE in the long period since.
EDIT 3: it’s us + Cats + Giants each wiith one top-up to come
New “leak” says we are again playing the Tiggers in Darwin.
If anyone is ambitious, that may mean men’s make-up game in Gold Coast to this a few days later. MORCS will be kept busy!
Fixture release today according to Essendon socials.
Edit: This was for the AFL mens. Still waiting on the women.
Hey!
To be fair, I do know JXT personally.
The Messiah™ Chloe Baker-West is ranked sixth across the nation – scarily 3 of the top 5 are in the Suns Academy (a mid, a 185cm mid, and a key forward).
Jade McLay (tall utility) is ranked 16th.
Those two Cannons need to dump that failing club and report to our VFLW team pronto.
Thursday is, supposedly, fixture release day.
Thursday of which month/year?
My snark was warranted.
They did “leak” a story that North Port Oval might not be available for “foreign” teams to play Saturday night games… so no VFL, no VFLW, no AFL, and no AFLW.
Just ■■■■■■■ ANNOUNCE fixtures all at once, ya nuffies.
Jess Hosking to miss the coming season due to “personal reasons”. Not clear if this apparent scandal is deemed enough to allow Wet Toast to get a top-up in to replace her.
Yeah, Newscorp hinting the fixture release was bumped due to the AFL House re-shuffle.
And the Jess Hosking thing… yeah, I’ve heard a bit, but won’t say as I don’t want a letter from the law firm of Soo You and Soo You Too!
Erica Fowler of Sandy is now a top-up for Geelong.
That leaves us as the likely only club with a top-up slot left (depending on the assessment of the West Coast situation above).
ALERT
Fixture is live on the AFLW website
That’s a reasonable fixture for us.
I guess season to season fluctuations are wild, but on balance, we should be pushing for finals again.
Although no Ess v FC or Collingwood seems odd.
Essendon … will travel the furthest, while Collingwood [will travel the least].
The Pies won’t leave Melbourne until round eight, and their interstate trips to Western Australia (round eight) and Queensland (round 11) are against fellow bottom-six finishers last year in West Coast and Gold Coast.
The more things change, the less they actually do.
They say no double-headers AND a given team’s AFL and AFLW teams may play as close as an hour apart.
If you like attending games or not paying for TV, the AFL hate you.
