No one forced me to have some of Mokbels finest at Welcome 2002 at the Docklands. Thanks fat Tony for an incredible 3-4 days
Mokbel and a number of others were charged and convicted of crimes because their defence lawyer was a police informer. The justice system has flaws in Victoria.
That’s terrible for everyone involved.
Hopefully the child gets a family.
Wasn’t sure where to put this but I figure this thread will do.
Article is about Michael Slater (former test cricketer, TV commentator) who has just been sentenced in court:
to four years in jail for the series of violent and horrific domestic violence offences, but was immediately released on a fully suspended sentence after already spending more than a year in custody
WTF is wrong with out court system?
What sort of message does this send to other potential/actual domestic violence perpetrators?
(Not to mention the impact on the victims of domestic violence)
This POS should be locked up and the key thrown away.
Without knowing any details, its hard to say if this is appropriate or not. He’s effectively been incarcerated for more than a year; no idea if his crimes merit more or less.
Did you read the article?
It gives plenty of detail in regards to his actions.
It’s bad, but I’m not sure if its more than a year in gaol bad.
Wow…why don’t you ask your partner, daughter, mother, female friends what they think?
Domestic violence will not be curbed by suspended sentences.
I don’t really think jail time, at least that late in the picure with Slater, is going to cure it. That needs a more fundamental shift in mindsets and reporting across Australia.
Bugger Slater…the sentence should be about protecting the victim.
If Slater is too far gone, then lock him up and throw away the key.
If treatment will help him, he can get that while he’s in jail.
At least that way, society (and more particularly the woman involved here) is safe from his predations.
I have no sympathy at all for Slater.
I have some at a human level. Might be misplaced. Guy obviously has some serious mental health issues. Can he even control himself? Who knows. Jail seems appropriate until he is no longer a danger. I think the hard part is figuring out if he is genuinely not a danger. People can act and lie.
Kicked, strangled, threatened to kill and emotional abuse. No sympathy from me.
He has had many chances…just another former/current athlete getting leniency because of who he is/was.
Such a shame mental health, drugs and alcohol can turn someone once revered into an absolute POS!
Good grief. I’m in enough trouble in other threads so don’t want to get banned.
Will say this. I travelled to Melbourne last week to meet with a girlfriend who is on her 5th attempt to escape domestic violence relationship.
I could not have a lower level of sympathy for perpetrators than i currently have.
I find that hard to believe.
I think celebrities get a certain amount of leniency, but repeat offenders don’t deserve any. Theres a few in that category - Justin Murphy comes to mind and Lovett. Liked them on the footy field but not off it.
In tennis, there is Zverev and he gets away with it, allthough fans have boo’d his matches due to this.
Some good news. Family who live near that synagogue in Elwood said that the synagogue is back in use after the arson attack, local Jewish community out and about freely.
A different picture from that presented by someone in an interview on the ABC yesterday. She initially said she was the head of the Jewish Council, but subsequently clarified that she represented the Jewish Community Council of Victoria.
The Republican adoption of a flavour of ‘anti-semitism’ shining a dark light for white liars everywhere. Must be very addictive.
