Qatar Air has been co-opted to bring Australians home from Lebanon, in addition to Qantas. Reportedly the Qatar flights arrived in Sydney before the Qantas flights. Maybe they are not all being evacuated via Cyprus.

According to Reuters, it was informed that the three Gulf States are lobbying the US to stop Israel attacks on Iranian oil facilities.
Saudi Arabia , Qatar and UAE are banning Israel from using their airspace for any attacks on Iran.
MBS and the Iran Foreign Minister have held meetings, at which Iran advised that it could not guarantee the safety of Saudi oil facilities in the event of Israel attacks on Iran facilities. Additionally , that Iraq and Yemen were ready to respond in the event that anyone In the region assisted Israel.

This is somewhat grisly but Everest has given up (partially) one of her secrets. Sandy Irvine - who accompanied Mallory on an attempt to summit ( and whether they did or didn’t, long before Hillary , is a matter of speculation) disappeared in 1924. If they can find the rest of him, it’s possible that a camera he was known to carry might reveal if they were actually the first to summit Everest.

Wow, that’s some news. I’ve been fascinated by that whole story for years. Into The Silence, by Wade Davis, is a spectacular book on the whole expedition, and I thoroughly recommend it, though it’ll need a new edition now.
I thought they’d never find Irvine, figured his body had fallen off the mountain and been reduced to fragments decades ago. I don’t hold out much hope for this camera though. It sounds like the body fell some distance and then was embedded in a glacier, I can’t see much possibility of the thing being intact enough to develop the pictures a hundred years after they were taken.

Agreed. But unless they wrote diary entries that are somehow found - and even they could be disputed - the camera is probably the only way to know. As remote a hope as that is. That said, the cold conditions could potentially save the negative plates.

It has to be said though, Edmund Hillary believed that it didn’t count unless you made it down again.
It’s nuts that these guys even got close though, given the equipment they had to deal with. Supplemental oxygen gear was primitive and unreliable, everything was wildly heavier than it is now because there was no plastic, and they were having to actually find a route as they climbed, up a path which still kills people now even though they know exactly where they need to go.
It’s some truly monumental feats of courage and endurance.
