Goal kicking

Which is probably the first time in two years that Brisbane, a notoriously inaccurate team, has kicked that straight.
Of course it had to be against us.

Very true. The one I was most surprised with missing his shots was Parish (usually a very good set shot). McGrath isn’t a noted goalkicker, and normally when he does it’s on the run. Cox appears to get the jitters in front of goal. Francis as hard as he tries is similar. But if you’re a professional footballer, being able to kick a goal from a set shot within 40m straight in front should be a formality. In this current team the only guy I trust implicitly is 2MP.

Yep, it’s a real issue. I understand some of those guys aren’t noted goal kickers but a player like Andy McGrath who’s a deputy vice captain has to go back with some conviction and slot that. He looked like a frightened little boy taking that shot.

We go into quarter time 6 - 7 goals up which wasn’t really out reach because we absolutely dominated them in the first. From there who knows, they’d def still come hard because they’re a quality team but we come out and kick the first and it’s a long long way back from 8 goals down.

We matched them, made some silly errors but it comes down to missed opportunities, they took there’s

Yep wangas and waters were out on the ground after the match running laps and exercises with a trainer, I reckon theyre looking likely for next week

I can’t get over cutler passing it off when he marked at 40-45 out.

The bloke can kick 60.

Need to adopt the team rule if you mark inside 50 you can’t pass unless you’d be willing to put your life on you hitting your teammate who you’re passing to.

Killed us yesterday. If you’re a dumb footballer you don’t have much hope.

We have very few guys who have the confidence to go back and take the responsibility to slot the set shot.

Stringer, Wright, Waterman, Tippa and I think Archie is gaining that confidence to take it on and slot it from a set shot.

Rest of them look absolutely terrified lining up for goal

I think Merrett is OK lining up for one … and given his passing he should be brim full in taking a shot. Nic Martin though clearly loves a goal and is a natural. He was sorely missed in that regard yesterday. … and he’s only played one game !

Weren’t all of his goals in play?

His set shot against st kilda was horrendous

guelfi centred it and actually kicked it further then then if he had a shot on goal.

if you mark it inside the arc you should be able to kick the distance…not many of ours can kick it 50

All our shots seem to be on angle why? Its rare seeing us lining up for goal directly in front

I reckon Merrett’s just about the most disappointing finisher in the side.
Beautiful kick, terrible shot on goals.

50.47 over his career - after starting 11.2 in his first year!

Fair call. And he’s one that should be 75:25 rather than 50:50. Something not right with a good passing midfielder like him not being better than those figures.

the best set shot kick at the club in Waterman……. Became a sh*t set shot kick by the end of the year.

Indoors and we can’t kick deadset sitters from 40m whilst the Hawks kick 13-0 from every angle and distance possible at a outdoor venue.
Goal kicking is 80% above the shoulders.

Pea hearted club

You can lay the blame for this squarely at the feet of our ‘mental skills coach’ David Reid, and our insistence on retaining him.

We were the most accurate team in the league at one stage last year from memory.

It’s all about confidence and for some reason we are lacking it at the moment.

It was obvious for all to see that once the goal kicking yips set in during the first quarter, that they would persist and cost us all afternoon. Once a couple of set shots miss, it quickly becomes an affliction that spreads, just like Covid. Get Wright to show players how it is done.

Pete had a couple of bad misses too
