I am a member at Heidelberg and Growling Frog. Heidelberg greens very fasy, GF a lot slower so I too leave my putts short at GF.
Read between the lines. Things are moving towards unification which is good for golf
you wont get it, this guys a fugazi merchant
Stuff has been moving towards a resolution for a year. This isn’t something new. All of the original bitterness has been gone for ages
Trump is the deal maker. He’s got Chamblee on side which is symbolic of significant progress. Politics aside, if his love of the game and influence can help unify golf, that’s good for golf.
Turnberry and Doral are both better courses than they were before, but I’d be inclined to give more credit to the architects anyway.
I’d have never thought twice about him if that was all he did.
The joining of the two tours should have been done 12 months ago but have been held up by Government administration who don’t like the idea of Saudi money being used to promote golf.
trump takes credit for everything regardless as long as it seems good
Reed hole in one in the opening 10 minutes. Crowd erupted and now he is playing the rest of the round soaked in beer
Fair turnout here and the infrastructure has really improved again this year
It’s a great event and well supported and put together. Credit to the govt for being courageous and the Shark for helping make it happen.
Played Port Fairy yesterday, well worth the trip, back nine in particular is wonderful. Greens were mint.
Played it many years ago. From memory it was a beauty. A hidden gem
I got one birdie this morning and the Falcon got a birdie as well, a poor duck. Not something you see every day on golf course.
I’m a sucker for the Ryan Peake story, the super talented junior who was allegedly better than Cam Smith at the same age, who then went seriously off the rails and joined a bikie gang in WA. Just read his Mum was actually relieved when he was sentenced to 7 years jail for serious assault because at least she “knew where he was sleeping at night.” OMG
Think he served 5 years.
Now at 31 he’s got a start in THE OPEN thanks to his NZ victory and if he can stay in the top 3 in the order of merit, he’s leapt into second place with a month to go, a card for the DP tour.
Absolutely a wonderful redemption story, and boy do we need them in today’s world.
I don’t buy the “more talented than Smith” bit. The golf Smith played after lunch to win the Aus Amateur back in the day was phenomenal. The old man, who was an absolute golf nut, reckoned it was the best golf he had ever seen.
I’m relying on 2 sources here, the ABC radio story where the reporter says Peake was ranked ahead of Smith as a junior when they teamed together, which I posted, and the very entertaining Ron Chopper vid from a year ago where he comments on Peake beating Smith. This was all probably prior to the Aus Amateur, think it was when they were juniors. I gather Peake lost his way in his late teens, which makes the story so much more incredible.
Possibly at 16 vs 21 I guess. The transition from talented junior to senior to pro is a long way.
It’s even longer if you spend 5 years in stir.
Oh for sure, what a story.
Gotta love the 17th at Sawgrass
