I thought I had it worked out just before Xmas with a couple of scores in the 80s and a 79 (par 65 course).
But no. Have been hovering around the low 90s again. Bloody frustrating.

same , we have a lot of bad weather from November onwards and I have lost momentum . got the HCP dow to 12 late last year and was eyeing off 10, now Iām back out to 14 , and some of my good scores are yet to come off so Iām going to blow out a bit more I think .
I have to play a lot and practice to score low. I still enjoy anyway . I will rate my enjoyment by ball striking , if I feel like I hit 80 to 90% the way I like and get off the tees ok Iām happy regardless of score, putting and chipping is usually where my good scoring comes from.
with a HCP of 14 or higher golf isnāt too hard , easy enough to play bogey golf and get the odd par here and there and youre not far off HCP . golf gets much harder closer to 10 than 14 or 15
Dan is desperate to play golf. So desperate, he got rich mate Max Beck to substitute him for Mrs Beck on the membership list of Moonah Links.
Moonah Links has now disavowed Dans membership of the club, rightly rejecting the shifty subterfuge.
Sorry Dan, maybe you need to move to Queensland if you want to play golf.
Oh man, youāre in a whole different league to myself.
My new driver should be in soon. Thatāll make all the difference.
Absolutely bucketed this morning on the GC. I went to dawn service and as soon as it finished it pelted. The golf courses already were well irrigated, Iām assuming very wet now
Sunday onwards will be nice again, if youāre still here
He canāt really complain, heās a member at Kingston Heath!
Iāve just resigned after 30 years a member at RMGC. I live on the Coast and have swung a club once in 5 yearsā¦. At the driving range at Carrara. And I hit the ball well which was a surprise.
Just in time for us to jump on the plane.
Hope Island has had 50mm already this morning with heaps more to come. Weāve cancelled and will find a comfy spot for the big clash today.
Love the RMGC, VGC, Chelt, and Sandringham. Its open space that are the lungs of the area I live in. I havent played golf for 55 years, but it wiuld be a tragic loss of open space and recreational spaces. OK, for rich folk I guess in the casE of RMGC.
Funny story: Years ago, my Uncle, a race car driver in the Australian Grand Prix in the 1950s and eventual owner of dozens of factories in South Melbourne applied for membership at RMGC. They knocked him back. You see he lived in lowly Aspendale and listed his occupation as a truck driver. So he joined Kingston Heath. Apparently they are not so discriminating, which is why Dan managed to gain membership there.
I got a new driver last year . I went with the Cleveland xl2. is made for slower swing speeds . has a very forgiving face and always feels solid even when not dead centre . I tried all the drivers and went to top of the range in the Sim, but the one I got was not very pricey and performed as good as drivers 2 times the price .
my old driver was a Cleveland too so I am happy with that brand .
earlier last year I loaded up the bag with hybrids . again Cleveland , beat thing Iāve ever done . change my game completely
got 3 4 5 6 7 hybrids . I kept a 7 iron in the bag but only use it occasionally for chip and bump and run round the green
I usually use my 8 iron inside 100 and wedges closer if I need to hit over bunkers
Your father would get into RM now on face value, itās not like that these days if he had relevant proposers, seconded and referees. Itās actually a great club to have played and enjoyed for decades.
Iāve got a cleveland 4 hybrid. Itās probably my safest club. Love it.
itās mine too . usually my second shot most times . I use the 3 hybrid on the par 5 as my second if im hitting them well
Been struggling to get out⦠I was all set to play during the kidsā school holidays but then we all got COVID.
Surely absentee is (relatively) cheap
I canāt imagine giving up an RM membership
I have a 4 hybrid. Itās so much fun. Except when I snap hook it at exactly the wrong time.
My safest club is the 2 utility iron generally
Hope youāre feeling better.
I have started to get a little more regular golf in for the first time in years. The hcp hasnāt caught up to reality, so 28 points every time. (Although last start I threw away a 33 due to the inability to hit greens from the middle of the fairway on 17 and 18, so maybe itās slowly coming back)
Iāve been an interstate member for 3 of those 5 years. Full membership now beyond $7k pa, if Iām not playing itās pointless. Iāve had a brilliant 30 years at the place and when you arenāt playing itās pointless keeping it up.
For 22/23 years I played every weekend, practiced on the range most weekends. I basically knew most members and everyone in the joint. I was off about 13-15, hit ball well but no talent with putting⦠Used to have 40 putts a round!!
It was my great joy, and Essendon of course. Iām now basically a āretiredā golfer, although when I hit a bucket of balls at the range recently I realised you donāt lose your ability to hit the ball nicely,
.
Itās fair. Iād imagine an absentee is about 1500, and would have given you access when you were around, but thatās still a fair bit of money.
Your golf game sounds much like mine in terms of putting issues. Of course playing at RM the price of bad putting is so exaggerated. I can remember trying to putt from behind the hole on 6 West (left pin). I mean does it count as 5 putts if your 2nd putt is a wedge? So terrifying.
The description of club membership is the whole point. Just having that community with a shared passion. Kind of like blitz, with a more positive shared passion!
