It’s a classic case of harder to get wrong than right.

For those interested in this kind of stuff, check out ‘Rob’s Words’ on Youtube. Great channel.

BS Brad likes that post.

“I NEVER SAID THEY WOULD WIN FINALS”

“Why do you say that?”

I have a granddaughter at Kinder. We got an invitation to a “Special Persons Day”. It began, "Your invited to … ", and went on to say, “Your sure to have lot’s” of fun. This was an invitation from the Kinder, not the little girl.

So much for early childhood education.

The last teaching l did down here, involved filling in for different teachers who had prepared some power point presentations. Sure enough there were errors in every power point.

I have a cousin by marriage who is a primary school teacher.

She writes as you have detailed above.

He-man.

Yanks are just weird. In their strange place DEFENCE becomes DEFENSE, yet CRITICISE becomes CRITICIZE.

And the verb “practise” becomes “practice”.

That’s nothing compared with what they do with terms like “ROOTING”.

And there’s the proof: the US nanny filter [imposed on Blitz to protect sensibilities of a hypothetical granny from Iowa that may log on here] does not see anything untoward.

You can imagine the mirth that ensued when a Seppo staying at the same backpackers hostel as us told us (prior to heading off for a walk to nearest supermarket) that she needed to grab her “fannny pack”… We had to explain to her the context of that word in Australia…
