Whopper Lane, in his guise as a fireman, rescued the old duck next door in West St Kilda…probably mid to late 1960s. At least my old man was excited.
Finished up at South Melbourne IIRC. And I think he shared the lead for goals in a grand final too…1942 or 1946. Which stood till Gary Ablett Snr in 1989.

I agree. We were absolutely unstoppable that day. The fact is that North were a definite level below what they had been the year before, but Sheedy still regarded them as the major threat, and he had that team at its absolute peak for that game. North barely touched the ball and never got a clear kick.
