Gst

The best thing that can happen to the GST is the removal of it and the reinstatement of the old sales tax, that when it was in place, had no detrimental effect on the prices for goods and services…and a lower amount of paperwork for compliance.

The old sales tax, known as the Wholesale Sales Tax, did a significantly major thing - it delivered revenue into the Federal Budget, that was not distributed to the States to use and allowed the States to operate their own revenue streams.

You are an idiot.

Oh, Pazza…

Wouldn’t go quite that far but acknowledge your anger and frustration with Pazza’s suggestion.

There’s just nothing right about that at all.

Great news guys.

I heard today it’s our choice, higher GST or higher Medicare levi.

I have no issue with it being the higher medicare levy, and that to me seems like the most logical way to aquire the funds. People who earn a certain amount below the threshold don’t pay it.

Higher GST means everyone pays.

just checked currently only these people pay

threshold is $90,000 for singles and $180,000 for families.

Heard today from a former liberal health minister ‘100% chance the GST will rise within 5 years’ was adamant that it was the only solution

Well he is a farkwit.

A solution could be the govt does not p!ss money away like it falls out of the skies.

And I am not just talking about the rorts of Chopper Bishop and her cronies.

This Govt screws down on the ordinary taxpayer while letting big business get away with billions in tax evasion… For example, BHP and Rio now paying minimal tax here because they apparently ship all their iron ore out of Singapore. What was that about the “great big mining tax” again?

And now, the blunders of the government under this global village idiot can “only” be fixed by screwing ordinary Australians with yet another great big GST,

I don’t agree with him.

Just sayin

If you increase tax on just high earners and not adjust the GST then the lower / middle incomes earners ‘should’ vote for you.
If you increase GST everyone pays more so everyone hates you.

It won’t be like the introduction of the GST where some items went up and some came down. This will be everything up including food as fuel is included in GST and trucks need fuel.

It should come down to a evolution of our tax system preparing it for the next generation but neither party will be brave enough to do the right thing for the country heading forward.

  1. Government increases GST
  2. Voters vote out government
  3. ???
  4. Democracy
1. Government increases GST 2. Voters vote out government 3. GST remains, voters get screwed regardless 4. Democracy

Filled in the gap for you.

The thing is too many in Canberra and elsewhere aren’t prepared to do true tax reform, instead just tinkering around the edges.

Kicking the can here since 1997. We re-wrote the 36 tax act and screwed it up almighty so now we have the 36 & 97 act.

The pollies can stick their head in sand all they want, but the fact that we are riding down the mining boom and an ageing population means someone with the fortitude needs to re-vamp the way the government collects it’s receipts.

At some point the conversation should be … Australia needs X to keep the lights on, ok who can chip in?
