GWS and Bulldogs

Does trading Griffen mean that sacking Macca was a mistake?
Who else did Macca pass off?

Apparently most of the senior players.

Given next year they basically could have done a straight swap?
A little but yeah.
Boyd & first round pick for Griffen & second/third rounder would have made more sense imo

No, it was in the Bulldogs best interests to get the trade done this year and asking for a pick back would've been counterproductive.

There wouldn't have been any straight swap next year, GWS would've taken Griffen as an unrestricted FA, and unless they finished last the Dogs still would've needed to give up their first pick in any deal for Boyd.

It ultimately makes sense for both clubs, Pick 6 this year ultimately didn't matter much to the Dogs as they were trying to upgrade it anyway to get McCartin or Wright, for the Dogs if you finish worse next year than you did this season you'll definitely get to keep the pick. For GWS you definitely end up with a top 10 pick for Boyd, next season the Dogs with a new coach and young squad could go backwards - last - and that'll leave you taking their 2nd round pick, in other scenarios if they keep Griffen & Cooney they may finish higher so you'd still end up with a lesser pick for Boyd.

Are there any of those left at the kennel now?
