Haylea’s husband - Adam "Icing" Cooney

Guaranteed to get the biggest ‘cooooooooon’ of his career in the weekend, from both sets of fans i reckon

He’s been pretty good this year. Clearly a good bloke, also a good footballer who could have been great if he hadn’t been playing on one leg for half a decade.

Coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon.

Guaranteed to get the biggest 'cooooooooon' of his career in the weekend, from both sets of fans i reckon

Hope so…but Dogs fans will probably still boo him the pathetic c**ts

I hope Dean Rioli is proud of himself.

?

That’s a wise call Adam.

Hope you have a great last match or two. Looking forward to your really giving those old man hammies a flogging on the weekend. All the best with your future endeavours.

Would you thank your family for the way they have embraced our club. Good on 'em.

I doubt it. The club let Cooney go… not the other way around.

I expect he will get a stunning reception for all fans for his 250th and last game. Sometimes this game brings out the worst in people… but plenty of times it brings out the best too.

I really think it will be both clubs chairing him off after the game… and well deserved too. This guy was a superstar when his body let him and he is a genuine brownlow worthy player (ie not woewodin).

Congrats on a great career.

Thanks Coons. I haven’t always been complimentary of your performances but I’ve never doubted your heart, effort and commitment to the club. Love the way you and your wife and kids have seemingly jumped into the red and black with both feet. Will consider you a Bomber for life.

Best part of the FB video is some of the nicknames
“Fetus” being maybe my favorite

Was it Cooney's first game for us against Sydney last year when he boomed a torp from about 60 metres at quarter time? In different circumstances we may have seen a lot more of that. All to best to him and thanks for your service Coondog.

Yeah it sure was
IIRC he kicked three that day for us but we got run over in the last
Actually that was one of my best memories of Adam playing for the Bombers - yelling “COOOOON” and having all the ignorant Swans supporters thinking I was referring to their beloved Goodesy (who got subbed that day)
Thanks Coons for the two years in a tough climate
Enjoy life post footy

Which FB page is it on? Does anyone have a link?

Fanta to 17 and…

Posting it here for those who haven’t read it yet.

Members first: Cooney announces retirement

After gracing the game’s biggest stage for more than a decade, Adam Cooney, has announced his thirteenth season will be his last.
Cooney’s decision to hang up the boots fittingly coincides with his 250 game milestone against former Club, the Western Bulldogs, at Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The 30-year old said he was proud of his achievements over the journey, including a standout season in 2008 which saw him crowned the League’s Brownlow Medallist and gain All-Australian selection.
“I feel very fortunate to have been able to play the game I love at the highest level, and I’ve made plenty of great mates along the way,” Cooney said.
“After many tough pre-seasons, gruelling training sessions, a few injuries and plenty of wonderful memories, I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my life.
“I’d like to thank my incredible wife, Haylea, and my kids Ash, Jax and Evie, for their enduring support over the years.”
Cooney joined the Bombers from the Bulldogs ahead of the 2015 season and said his time at Tullamarine had revitalised his love for the game.
"When I left the Bulldogs I was looking for a change in my career and an opportunity to develop in a new environment.
"The Essendon Football Club has given me that with first-class facilities, a great culture of leadership and great team mates who I have continued to learn a lot from.
"It seems a fitting tribute to be able to play against the Dogs this week to celebrate my 250 game milestone but also to celebrate the career that I have enjoyed at both Clubs.
"I’m looking forward to the opportunity to also say thank you to the fans from both Clubs who have showed enormous support throughout my career.
Senior Coach, John Worfold, says Cooney has made a significant contribution to the culture and future development of the Club’s playing list.

“Adam has had an incredible career, he’s achieved some of the games highest accolades including a Brownlow Medal and All-Australian selection, and the way he worked his way back after some serious injuries has been a highlight for me,” Worsfold said.
“In a year where we needed people to help guide our young list, Adam’s experience, leadership and team care has been really vital, and he also brings a lighter mood to the group which has been particularly important at times this year.

“We wish Adam and his family all the best for the future and I’d encourage Essendon and Bulldog supporters to get along Sunday to pay tribute to his impressive career.”
General Manager of Football, Rob Kerr, thanked the versatile veteran for his outstanding services to the Essendon Football Club over the past two seasons.

“Adam has been a wonderful contributor to our football club since he first arrived last year,” Kerr said.

“There’s no doubt Adam was challenged by injuries in his first year at the Club, but he always put the team’s needs first and has continued to play his role as an experienced leader for our younger players.

“Adam is a highly-regarded and valued member of our playing group for his enthusiasm and experience.

“We are proud to have seen him ‘Don the Sash’ with the Bombers, and on behalf of everyone at the Essendon Football Club, we wish Adam, his wife Haylea and children Ash, Jax and Evie every success for the future.”

His 2008 was exceptional.

Well done Adam and best wishes.

Thanks for your hard work and dedication in a difficult time for this club while trying to remain a positive influence for the younger guys. You gave all you could. Thanks.

Pity some fans in here couldn’t do the same for you.

What do you mean? I gave him all I could!

Was at that game and I thought “what a pick up he is going to be!” Then I think he did his hammy in the same or next game and never played as well as he did in that debut.

that fb vid was classic, coons should transition into the efc media dept

I’m happy to see him finish in decent form. Thanks Coons.

Thanks Coondog.
