On SEN he was very genuine about his time at the Bombers. Knew his body could never do what it could before, got some good run this year but couldn’t kick the way he knew he had before, and felt he didn’t wanna go round again in case he couldn’t perform to the level and couldn’t help the team.
I like that despite not being his best he did everything he could, and what he produced was enough to be best 22 and help us greatly.
Now give jaeger a call and fill him in on how our spongey floors helped your knees through two full seasons. Have luenberger in the background ready for his turn too
It’s only fitting if we beat the club that thought he was done. Reckon he will have a shot at goal at every opportunity. Hope he kicks a bag and then some more.
His appearance on the footy show was enlightening. Has basically played and trained in pain for years, and as he said, now that it’s all about to be over, he can tell the truth and admit that it was a lot worse than he ever let on. Is a genuinely funny guy, and while he jokingly said that he could have been an all time great if not for the knees, he was spot on. He had the world at his feet in 08 and his body stopped letting him do what he knew he used to be able to. It was funny too because his wife talked about the first time she got into an argument with a supporter from another team over comments about him and revealed it was an Essendon supporter and that she hated us. Then admitted that Zaka was a bit of all right. He is funny as, and I really hope he has a fantastic life off the field. Coons, thank you for all you have done for my club, both on and off field, you will always be welcome there and if we ever meet, I will gladly buy you a beer.
I think he knew this year was going to test him and that he’d be under pressure at the end so he went out on his terms. I must admit, I’ve grown to like him. Although it could be that red and black jumper he’s been wearing.
can't help but feel for him a bit after watching the presser. He won a brownlow at 22 and then farked his knee. He was an incredible talent cut down in his prime and it is kinda sad to see that he genuinely (and not unreasonably) feels a bit robbed. But for that knee injury i don't doubt they would have beaten the saints in the 09 prelim. I hope when all the dust settles he can look back proudly on a great career notwithstanding the set backs he faced.
I worked with a Doggies played dad back in the day who told me years ago cooneys career was over because of that knee. Could barely walk between games.
All things considered he did extremely well to get to 250 games.
But I reckon he is a champion for a different reason.
I don’t know if people noticed his eldest daughter, Ashlea, today - she has a disability. Ashlea is actually not Adam’s daughter, it’s his wife’s daughter.
So when Haylea said to Adam “Oh, and by the way I have a daughter…oh and she has a disability”. Adam didn’t run a mile instead he said “Yeah, I’m up for that”.
And as I have a daughter of similar age with a similar disability I know what that means.
Champion Bloke. All the best to you are your beautiful family.

Read about that a while ago. Doesn’t deserve a lot of the ■■■■ he’s copped, and I hope dean Rioli gets a chance to reflect that had he actually bothered to try and look after his knees we’d have celebrated his career in a similar way.
Cheers coondog
Stayed to the end to applaud him, least I could do.
I disagreed with his team selection the last 2 years because of his foot skills and age but I don’t doubt his effort for us and his embracing of the club in what was a short period together.
