At least u2 had a genuinely unique thing early on and a very decent period of song writing. Then you’ve got Coldplay who were a pretty and commercialised Radiohead, then a twat with a penchant for stealing melodies and using loop pedals who just happened at the right time - we get the stars our times deserve.
No, not a huge fan either. Gone off most vocal music years ago but the old stuff had energy and authenticity and i have a soft spot for tracks like All I want is You. I was a big Wim Wenders fan and they were one of the bands he used well in some of his films
Hot takes might be cool but anyone who thinks a Hitler reference is either cool, funny or “a hot take” needs to rethink their frames of reference in my boomer opinion.
There is no bad music. Just because you (and I don’t mean you in particular hp) don’t like it, doesn’t make it any more or less valid for someone else to like it. Coldplay? You don’t like, sure, but a tennis centres full of people will happily pay $100+ to see Chris Martin do his thing. Don’t like U2? Sure. But they are playing like a million shows in a row at the sphere or whatever it’s called, and are clearly one of the most iconic acts or the last 50 years.
It’s so easy for people to pot everything that’s popular. (I mean, I should know, I’m a gen X and have spent my life potting things that are popular. Including watching a million people potting football) Guess what. Gen X is full of ####s who think they can tell other people what to like, and continue to do so, because clearly they have better taste than anyone else. I mean we’re all just boomers once we get to 25 aren’t we.
I’m gen x and it was clear to me that most everything that generation was making contemporary music wise was horribly inferior to what had come before. We’ve been on the decline for decades. The internet and the domination of midi have just made the shitt slide slicker.
