Terry Bollea aka Hulk Hogan won a $115m settlement against Gawker Media for publishing his sex tape without his permission.
Gawker claims they’re protected under the first amendment, while Hogan was obviously claiming breach of privacy.
Personally, I’m glad Gawker lost and think this is a great precedent. I’m sick of media cesspools who post anything they can get their grubby hands on and then hiding behind “it’s newsworthy”. I just don’t get how crap like this is in the public interest regardless of how many losers are actually interested by it. Hopefully this leads to a lot of journalistic entities examining their ethics, but I’m not holding my breath there.
Mods, please delete if this has been posted elsewhere, but I can’t see it.
