Agreed, like Perkins and Cox a couple of years back.
WHAT ELSE DO WE HAVE
As guru Bob once said
…..’ a champion team will always best a team of champions; unless of course the team of champions is very very good’!!!
our ‘team’ may have a ways to go but getting good cattle is the start.
We can win 10-11 games if everything goes right and play off in the wild card game and maybe even win it.
Do I want this… NO! Finish second bottom and keep filling up please, keep to the rebuild plan.
I’ll be death riding the hawks not just cause **** em but because we want them to have as good of a first pick as possible to give us for Zacky boy whom I hope wins another B&F.
If we get a lot of games into our younglings and Robey, Sharp etc show signs then that’s a bloody good year in my view. My main one is Caddy, this year should be the year he really starts to kicks some bags and be more consistent.
If everything goes absolutely perfectly we’re looking at 10 wins
Round 1: Hawthorn the Merrett cup. Everyone running through brick walls. Hawthorn doesn’t respect us and we jump them. W
Round 2: Port Adelaide. Port’s tanking W
Round 3: North Melbourne; North is North W
Round 4: Western Bulldogs: Were building momentum. Reid dominates Darcy. W
Round 5: Melbourne: Melbourne are garbage W
Round 6: Gold Coast SUNS: we’re due a loss and the umpires make sure if it L
Round 7: Collingwood Anzac Day L
Round 8: Brisbane Lions Brisbane L
Round 9: GWS GIANTS. How happy are our forwards going to be lining up on Laverde W
Round 10: Fremantle Freo in Melbourne, the club is out for revenge on Voss W
Round 11: Richmond Richmond are ranking W
Round 12: West Coast Eagles are ranking W
Round 13: Carlton are crp W
Round 14: Melbourne are crp W
Round 15: Bye Round @ 11-3
Round 16: North Melbourne still crp W
Round 17: St Kilda yeah they’re also crp W
Round 18: Brisbane Lions Top of the table clash L
Round 19: GWS GIANTS L
Round 20: Hawthorn L
Round 21: Adelaide Crows W
Round 22: Geelong Cats absolutely due W
Round 23: Sydney Swans W
Round 24: Port Adelaide W
**17-6. Should easily be good for top 4
Wins against Geelong and Western Bulldogs in the same year?
I can’t even remember the last time we did that.
“We’re due” is a reason right?
2011
Everything going right should see us bottom 3
Is this a membership drive? Don’t get our hopes up.
Im with you though perhaps slightly less bullish (unless everything goes well and players come on as we’d wish). I think we need two more good drafts and any Merrett trade is likely the key centrepiece of that.
If he garners us two first round picks, one across 2026 and one in 2027 with possibly a 2nd rounder thrown in for let’s say next year, we can then hit the draft with 3-4 top 30 picks next year and prepare for a Bewick acquisition too for 2027 with him hopefully remaining a high end talent by then.
At that point we would have a solid core of 10 or so first rounders including the last couple of years and a fantastic foundation to see incremental, sustainable growth up the ladder.
Im sure we are all sick of our middling ways for the best part of 20 years.
If everything goes right, by default then you ultimately end up making and winning a final and go from there.
what are the chances of even everything going 70% right ? and then where do we end up ?
the forwardline is still going to be the main a biggest issue, cos it’s severly imbalanced, and requires decisions to be made that the coach has not done previously. we ain’t gonna do ■■■■ if our forwardline is wright, caddy, langford, jones, kako and one of guelfi or gresham or both. and then you have to try and squeeze in mcmhaon or the other mid season recruit.
midfield and defence look to have the potential to be more settle and perform at a certain level, as long as you get the balance right.
robey and sharp need to be rotated through the middle, but how do you do that with merrett, durham, caldwall and the rest ( if not injured due to this magical fairyland where everything goes right) ?
mckay and reid look decent on paper, but that’s where they generally stay. Ridley to boot.
then you again have to get the right mix, and get a better gameplan from the coach. There’s a lot of work to do to remotely get anywhere near if everything goes right.
except for the forwardline, there as least looks like a more and better balanced foundation to at least be in a better position to make better decisions, so that’s a plus.
Lid off thread is holding our beers.
I’d replace Jones with Robey (start him mostly as a forward), which frees up a midfield spot.
But yeah, the issues are mostly still up forward.
Just focus on Hawthorn round one.
At last some common sense. ![]()
Correct
Love to beat these ■■■■■■ in front of 80000 plus round 1.
But, realistically, with a team that’s going to have lots of new players and systems in it, if we lead at any stage of the second half I’ll be happy.
We have way more than 10 first rounders already!
Recent ones that havent proven to be flops yet*
