Indigenous Round to honour Sir Doug Nicholls

It’s been released this morning that next season’s indigenous round will honour Sir Douglas Nicholls - perhaps the first great indigenous footballer.

Nicholls had been rejected by fark Carlton but was a shining light for Fitzroy alongside the likes of Bunton during his playing career. Sir Doug Nicholls Oval in Thornbury is named after him - home of Fitzroy Stars.

Nicholls would be come a Christian Pastor and then in the 1970’s, would rise to be South Australia’s Governor.

Great stuff.

Great decision by the AFL

Concur.

Am I missing something?
Changing the name of something that already exists?

Well…yes, yes you are, however now is not really the time to discuss such personal matters.

Just another token gesture unless they also bring back Fitzroy.

And ‘Chicken’ Smallhorn.

Wilfred ‘Chicken’ Smallhorn.

Chicken.

Do we need to proceed every mention with a ‘deceased’ warning?

(semi-serious question)
