I have an informal meeting with a potential new boss tomorrow. I’ve never had one of these before.
Interviews I’m ok with because I can prepare for them.
How do these meetings usually go? Do I talk lots? Do I let her talk lots? Do I make jokes?
I’ve never met this person before.
Any tips will be welcome.
Cheers
Listen lots and give interview type answers when needed but deliver them like you would to a not-close friend.
Happened to me last job. I think i snuck in one swear word when describing funding situation mid catch up to let them know i was comfortable with them.
I work for a bank in lending.
Ask her one thing…
Show me the money.
Seriously, just put yourself in her position and ask yourself what attributes you would like in an employee. …job related ofcourse

Thanks :)
I'll have the usual stuff prepared like why do you want this job. what do you in your current role? What do you like about what you do? What don't like? Blah blah.
It's on my turf in my work building so at least I'll be comfortable.

I bought a new dress. Hopefully she appreciates that :)
ask 'how long until i can......?"
Find out what football team she supports, this is very important. Considering you're in Adelaide, it's probably one of the local teams but you never know, what if it's carlton? eek!
"...so, anyway...I know a guy. If you need anything, just let me know. It's no problem."

I suspect this question might come up anyway.
Aren’t any of you on here bosses? Not like thinking you’re a boss, but as in actual managers who hire people?
Oh, right.
Be friendly without being flakey.
That's pretty much it.

oh, you're after serious advice...
carry on
Funnily enough I am interviewing right now Em…
You're not a very attentive interviewer.
Eh I don’t care for the “interview type” answers when I interview people…probably why people have started having these types of informal interviews, helps weed out the well rehearsed people who can answer the questions well but are crap at the job.
I would say it’s more about forming an overall opinion rather than just firing interview questions. Better environment to learn a little more about the type of person you are.
So just be yourself and follow her lead, if it seems like its getting too “business like” then take the lead yourself to show you aren’t just a follower…
I have a feeling you will do just fine
One tip that i got from my mum, which i have used ever since, is tell them in equal parts how much and why you want the job before you tell them why you’d be good at it.
People often forget to say it at all.
Rub her/his leg under the table, could be the clincher.
I solve problems, that’s just what i do.
Still a better love story than Twilight.
Thanks for your help everyone. I appreciate it. I just hope I’m not too nervous and start saying silly things.
