I read a story about the Besder twins (English medium pace bowlers from the 50s, one of whom was very good). Someone had a view of both of them at a function, where they were in different parts of the room. The observer noticed they took a sip of their pints at exactly the same time, pint after pint. Eric and Alec Bedser. They lived together their whole lives, and worked together, too. Neither married. However, they realised that there wouldn’t be room for the two of them as fast-mediums in the Surrey team, so they tossed a coin on it. Alec won. Eric concentrated on his batting from then on, and became an all-rounder, bowling off spin, playing regularly for Surrey. While his brother Aiec wen’t on to become an all-time great for England, Eric was never selected for the England team, as he was competing with the likes of Laker and Locke. All the same, he often accompanied Alec on overseas England tours.

“Jake Kelly is out with concussion, and [No.5 draft pick Elijah] Tsatas will be after the bye, with ‘Reidy’ [Zach Reid], so in the next month we will get a fair few players back.

“Darcy Parish will be in that period, too, so hopefully without any more injuries happening, we’re looking forward to getting a lot of guys back for the second half of the year.”

That being said, Scott is far more cautious so he probably won’t play.

Perhaps, but it seemed like such a hopeful paragraph that I’d say it is more likely a ‘Kelly is out with concussion so will be available next week’ thing.

The ‘in the next month’ part suggests it too.

I’m ok with letting Laverde recover for a couple of more weeks and playing Baldwin. He really is showing something as a big defender.

Yeah I think it was in the week that Merrett got done for ‘that tackle’ that Kelly was interviewed and he spoke quite in depth about why he personally supports the ultra conservative path the AFL are taking on concussion and actions which can lead to concussion because of his own experiences at Adelaide and how it kind of scared him a bit.
