Injury Updates

The club could at least said he will miss a few weeks

Cale Hookers calf

Those not playing half will be available for Geelong, at the very worst case right for round 1.

That’s a pretty healthy list

On track for 15+ being unavailable for round 1.

Not good for the team that Kelly is injured. They were trailing things based on training reports with Kelly being a key ingredient.

Kelly’s hammy making the tough calls that Brad won’t.

I’m full panic on Caddys back.

Stress related injuries are almost impossible to avoid in high performance sports

We have something official. Not necessarily truthful, but at least official.

There seems to be a core group that have completed all or most of preseason which makes for a nice change. It wasn’t looking that way in November! The midfield outside of Draper, Duursma and Shiel (minor niggle to Hobbs) has pretty much had an uninterrupted run and Cox, Reid and Jones have all gotten through most sessions. Goldy, McKay and Gresham haven’t missed that I can remember.

Consistent preseason 22 to the best of my memory

McGrath Lav Reid
Redman McKay Heppell
Durham Setterfield Martin
Perkins Jones Gresham
Menzie Langford Caldwell
Goldstein Merrett Parish
Bryan Tsatas Hind Cox

Guelfi Weid Hayes Kelly Davey Jnr Roberts Lual

My guess…

Ridley Calf 2 weeks - will play round 1 (no practice match)
Wright General soreness - will play second practice match
Caddy Sore back - will play second pratice match
Kelly - Hamstring - 4 weeks
Hobbs - Sore shoulder - Will play VFL round 1
Draper - Back - Will play VFL round 1
Shiel - Foot - Will play VFL round 1
Tex - Foot - 8 weeks
Hunter - Knee - Season
Baldwin - Foot - 14 weeks

We’ve had a decent pre-season for injuries but all of a sudden the list has swelled to 10 players… If we were playing round 1 today of the 10 i think only 2MP and Ridley would actually play so it really means that we have 8 injured players.
It’s a concern. Fingers crossed we get out of Friday with no additional injuries.

Shiel, Draper and Rids are in full training. Rids will 100% play next week.

The other two will get some match practice before Rd one, could be next week in the VFL or the bye week before Rd 1.

Yes I know but Shiel & Draps aren’t match fit yet. If we were playing round 1 tomorrow they both wouldn’t be ready.

I just think that we will end up playing an alternative mid who has going through a full pre-season over Shiel. He will get his spot back in the best 22 no doubt.

Draper is a bit harder. Our best 22 will have two rucks based on last year but with Hawks going in short i think the team selection could go with Goldy as a standalone ruck with 2MP providing back up.

Ridley, Wright, Hobbs and Caddy have already been announced as available for the Cats game next week

Draper and Shiel I’d guess may do some minutes in a VFL praccy next week
