Maybe Saints might be intrested in Parish they always seem desprate
Swap Hobbs for Jones and I reckon your side is the best available for round 0 or 1 or whatever it is called.
But Scott will probably include Goldstein, Laverde and Menzie!!!
They were smart enough not to take Shiel, the days are gone where we can unload our deadwood to other clubs.
What would you have them run on?
Fluffy pillows?
Rubber Mats?
Carpet?
I suppose you’re suggesting that Essendon are the only clubs training on these surfaces?
Wouldn’t all players be breaking down then?
Looked at the recent clubs injury lists and seen how many soft tissue injuries are occurring at ALL clubs?
I’m over the constant suggestion by many here that we are the worst and continually neglecting our players welfare by being sub standard compared to other clubs?
Richmond last year, total catastrophe with injury. Yet I recall them winning 3 flags just recently from training on the same grounds that cursed them in 2024.
Injuries happen. Shame that’s so hard for many to grasp. I get frustrated too, but it’s industry wide and as much a part of the AFL as the balls themselves.
Maybe they could start by not running players into the ground at training and stop doing everything they can to make the game as fast paced as possible.
Humans aren’t built for this game and each year the injuries increase to reflect this. Something needs to change.
Shorter qrts and increasing the number of rotations during a game would be a good start
Wtf does the AFL want players to play fatiuged when a team runs out of rotations.
Players are at high risk of getting injured when fatigued there is only so mucn a human body can handle/push.
Or really incentivise high scoring. Bonus premiership point if you score >120 in a game. Win or lose.
It’s the defensive running and maintaining whole ground defence which is the biggest burden on players.
Couldn’t disagree with this more, most people do hamstrings at high speed. High speed also increases the speed at which bodies clash increasing contact injuries.
The best way to stop soft tissue issues and contact injuries is to slow the game down & favour endurance athletes who are less susceptible to these type of injuries. You could do this by doing the opposite and actually reduce rotations. Teams would be forced to change strategy to reduce running requirements.
But they dont. Coaches and fans will continue to demand that every player runs harder for longer. Fans and commentaors already call out players for not running hard, for not running both ways. for not putting in the big effort. Thats not going to change.
Presumably as players get fatigued through the game scoring starts to open up.
More appealing for viewers and advertisers probably.
How else are they supposed to assault the eyeballs of all those pre-teens with gambling ads?
Very different and faster game these days of course.
But back in the distant day, teams only had a 19th and 20th man for the entire game. You had to literally be stretchered off or broken a limb. Was only during the 3rd quarter or 3/4 time or later when tactical subs were often made. Barassi in the '70 GF excluded.
Was why some of those old coaches became tactical geniuses, switching players around to gain an advantage with who they had on.
lol …
His value is decreasing by the season, rapidly. At the end of 2023 he had currency. In 2024 he produced nothing, and he hasn’t started 2025 well. I doubt we would get value for him at this rate.
Spoke to someone very close to Rids. His hammy feels good and will play against Geelong. The club being cautious
Jeez that’s good news @Lawry. The hamstring strain was unfortunate, but at least it wasn’t a reoccurrence of the quad. Hopefully just a minor set back in what had been a very encouraging pre-season for Rids. He’s so important to the team.
Given Suns have Ben King and Mac Andrew and Jed Walter, having Ridley fit and available will be handy.
Apparently it was minor but no chances taken
Ridley last year took a while to get back to running at a fast pace. He was doing a lot of running last week and his ball work/marking was back to his b/f for before this injury. I really hope it goes well for him. Expecting rids to play against the Suns.
Parish is a big worry. Can’t see him playing until around Anzac Day.
Lid off, engraving his name into ANZAC medal now.
And it seems to take him a good few weeks to play well when he gets back in, so I wouldn’t play him on Anzac Day if it’s his first match back
