Insurance

I too have heard bad things about youi.

All I want is good, efficient customer service. That’s it. I just don’t understand why it’s so difficult.

I hear Mick Gatto is a solver of problems.

I’ve tried RACV, Youi and AAMI. I’m with AAMI because RACV are twice as expensive where I’m currently living but I’ve been happy with them in the past. Youi gave a great deal but jacked the premium the following year by 80%. I never made a claim with them so cannot comment on that part of their service.

Surely it would be SWMNBN.

I had a similar problem with Allianz on the length of time to do home repairs, I worked out that they hired an overall contractor more than 60k away, who in turn hired subbies ( probably lowest quote) from that area. Tying up the various subbies to do the works was excruciating. If they had used subbies from my area the job could have been done is less than half the time.

Wife and I are with youi for our cars and home and contents insurance. Much cheaper than the others quoted, multi policy discount and good service. They have tried to jack up the premiums but we just threatened to go elsewhere and they relented.

That’s what we’ve had from Youi

So I should describe the problem I guess - I got hit in my car (which is a hunk of junk anyway so wgaf). Incredibly minor damage to the bumper. Called AAMI who told me to drop it off to a repairer (who wasn’t anywhere near local) and that they would have it fixed in 2-3 days.

When I turn up the first thing the repairer says is that it will take at least a week because they don’t even have the capacity to do the repair that’s necessary and will need to send the car away to do that bit. I’m infuriated but already there so I agree and leave the car.

That was Monday. Hasn’t heard anything last night (Thursday) so I called the repairer (who seems a decent bloke), he tells me that he sent the authorisation for the repairs to occur off to AAMI Monday at 9:30am but that he hasn’t heard anything back so he can’t do anything on the car until he does. (So essentially it will be another week at least).

So I’m infuriated and call AAMI to complain and ask what’s taking so long and after I have finished saying my piece they say that they can’t tell me anything because I’m not the primary account holder (my wife is).

Faaaaaaarrrrrkkkkkkkkkk

They have their own Ombudsman, because they are such crooks

I did that too once. Quote was double what I currently paid. Requested they shove it. Got about four calls over the next week asking if “we could work something out”. It was like getting messages from a desperate ex “I can change, I swear!”

Every time I have to speak with Youi I end the call with “can you do us a deal” and there’s always some offer that ends up in a 5% discount or something. They’re weird.

How low can you go? I heard Youi are cheap but tue premiums are ridiculously high.

I feel your pain I’m having same problem with suncorp.nrma were the best i’ve dealt with.

The only time you will ever find out if your insurance company is any good is when you have to claim. We had to claim my sons stolen car with Suncorp once, about 8 months later after talking to about 35 people (I kid you not at the time I had a list) it was still not resolved. The was recovered but was written off. I eventually found out they thought he had stolen it to get the insurance money and has put private detectives on it who were ringing us up purporting to be from the insurance company.
Eventually it was resolved, however anyone who ever mentions customer service and Suncorp in the same breath and I start laughing uncontrollably.
I would never never ever insure with them again for anything.
Conversely we had our boat insured with club marine. During one of the sets of flood here it sunk at its mooring. I believe 100 boats sunk that day. Our was a half cabin that we had brought for $5k so we had it insured for $5k never ever thinking of salvage costs.
Anyway my sons and the guys next door managed to turn it over and get it floating again
Club marine were fantastic. Did the whole claim by email. I sent them photos and within a week they paid us the $5k and let us keep what was left of the boat.
Fairly sensible as we fixed it up and reinsured with them. And that’s part of what they stand for.
They said that they find many boats that have been written off by them end up being repaired and reinsured by them, and they are quite happy for that.
They even do some of it themselves. Repair the boats they have paid out on and sell them.
Great insurance company can’t rcommend them highly enough.
Pity they only do boats.

For those that don’t know - insurance companies employ teams of people who’s sole job is to discredit claims by any means they can. One side signs 'em up, the other side knocks back the claims via fine print. They are not interested in you. You don’t win with insurance shysters, just like you don’t win at casinos.

As they say in the classics, they sell you an umbrella while the sun’s shining, and take it off you when it starts to rain.

We’re currently moving house, about 1km away, just rang Youi to get an updated quote. Practically 3x what we were paying before. Asked what the hell? Got told “nothing more we can do, but rest assured we’re so good to deal with”.

So yeah I’m no longer their advocate. Screw Youi.

In our family we have 5 cars and two houses insured with Youi. We had two of the cars damaged recently and Youi were excellent. With roadside assistance included I’ve been able to unload multiple RACV roadside fees. In the last few months I moved one of the properties from Youi to Woolworths because they almost halved the premium, perhaps confirming Riolio’s experience. Other than this occasion I’ve never been able to beat Youi’s prices and I shop around every year.

I genuinely lol at the fact that your insurance payments can go up or down based on the suburb you live in. I once moved to the fringes of Bayswater (like 5 mins from where I was previously living) and my payments went up by $20 a month.
