Is Pearl Jam Underrated?

Really odd thread title. Firstly I've never been a fan, but they're rated pretty highly. Secondly, it should be 'Are Pearl Jam overrated?', not 'Is'. It makes my eyes hurt reading that.

Are Pearl's jams overrated ?
LOLZ ....you're wrong....'Is' is grammatically correct......as in 'Is Essendon the most fabulously fabulous team in the AFL with Carlisle at CHF ' :p
* note to self, when being a sarcastic ■■■■■ it is important to get the spelling correct

Quintessential quince paste ;-)

U2 have been around 10 years longer.

The recognition is starting for PJ now.

Yeh I was surprised it was that long. In my memory they were closer together.

under-rated or not, it's been good listening through a couple of albums again.  I will load the cd's into the computer and churn out a "greatest hits" to keep in the car.

"given to fly" took me back to riding a mates new Ducati 900ss (in red of course) at not entirely legal velocities for some reason, lol.  very vivid memory.

And of course the inevitable happened. A Pearl Jam episode invariably leads me to State Of Love And Trust. Which equates without fail to the soundtrack “Singles”.

How farking good is THAT album!!? And how big a part did it play in launching the Seattle sound onto a corpulent and jaded music world!? Friggin huge, I’d say.

Vale Andy and Layne.

It’s not my music world anymore to demand change in, but Given what I hear on current popular radio via my kids, I really hope another big shift is imminent for the youth out there. Maybe it already has and I just hear it, lol.

Never really been a fan, they werent hard enough, but anyway...
A friend got married and his wife chose the song "Better Man" for when they walked down the aisle or the bridal waltz either way can't remember but it just seemed the perfect song for them.

That's a really odd choice for a bridal waltz. I remember seeing them at Rod Laver and Vedder introduced Better man as "a song about the ar$ehole who married my mother"

Mendozaaaa:

I did actually write that the title was focussed on Pearl Jam's middle albums, not so much the early commercial success of 1991.

But instead the brilliance of albums like No Code, Yield, Vitalogy, Binaural etc and beyond.

I'm not saying the band is underrated or that Ten period, but more the albums beyond Vs. era.

Well, I don't think she could find a better man, so he will do I guess. Pretty sad
Same wedding groomsman spewed in the thing that holds the holy water, and another had a black eye. Tip for young players, hold the bucks party AT LEAST 2 weeks prior.

Don't want to argue over what can be an emotional topic, but the Seattle Sound you refer to was around for a decade before that movie was made. Sure a few good bands around at that particular time, but everything was set in place be a dozen or more bands before that, who PJ have to thank.

I mentally group Ten, Vs and Vitalogy together.

Then No Code and Yield.

Then the rest.

Binaural wasn't perfect, but it did contain this gem of a song...

Oh for sure. PJ didn’t pave the way. Gossard was in Green River and mother lovebone well before PJ formed, for instance. But I reckon Seattle broke out into mainstream around the time of the singles soundtrack. I had found Alice in Chains prior, and Soundgarden but hadn’t really cottoned on to PJ or Screaming Trees etc until around then.

They said it themselves best: hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away.

If you stopped listening at Vs or Vitalogy you missed out IMO

STP- Plush & Blind Melon - self titled.

Two records from that time that didn't get a lot of love in Oz, but are classics in my mind

A mate put me onto Louder Than Love pretty early, and he knew his stuff, so Soundgarden weren't a big surprise to me.

Might have caused some confusion there.

I was meaning the Album "Core" - Stone Temple Pilots.

Plush was the 2nd single. *face slap*

I've always gotten that ■■■ about.   Apologies.
