We ain’t getting 60-70k at the MCG to watch the Dogs or North
I don’t agree necessarily. If both sides in this type of fixture are in the top 8 and it’s in a good time slot, it’s certainly capable of drawing 60,000+.
Certainly these fixtures can draw 50,000+. Essendon, the away team, drew 50,000 to a Dogs home game this year to a 9th Vs 11th encounter…
It regularly drew 50-70k against the Dogs / Roos between 1993-99 prior to moving to Marvel. As recent as 2019, Essendon (10th) played Swans (9th) at the MCG in front of 60,300 as proof of it certainly being achievable if the fixture is strong in the right slot.
We should make some sort of arrangement with Melbourne that it’s always our home game against them at the G.
We’re the two most supported clubs by MCC members, always packed there for Dons Dees games.
Make it a replacement game for their regular members while all our regular members can also of course go.
If we are still going ok, it’s the Sydney game at Docklands we should be talking about.
As it stands, that will ‘sell out but not to capacity’ and get about 44,000, but at the G it would absolutely crack over 60,000.
If were in contention for a top 4 spot still (haha), could be a record for a s***** crowd at docklands
No it won’t unfortunately. The days of Essendon drawing much over 45,000 are gone whilst the club has so many reserved seat members and no successful method of filling them all on matchday.
Still no news for next year.
Contract with Marvel ends next Saturday.
we’re moving to aami park
They did play an AFLX game there once. Most awkwatd shift I ever worked.
I like the previous suggestion of a Sunbury stadium although I would probably bulldoze Rupertswood to put the stadium there.
Nope build it at Clarke oval.
ANNOUNCE WATCHING GAMES FROM MY ROOF
Only 1 extra game? That’s disappointing, we need at least 2
We’d play more there if we could actually get to finals.
Good outcome for 2026. This is 12 months later than the club hoped and the article suggests it’s not locked in beyond 2026.
Carlton have secured their year on year request of a 6th MCG home game. Saints have secured an MCG home game for the second year running this year.
I’ve said for a long time Essendon has been weak commercially, I’m not convinced things have changed.
Let’s see where things stand in 18 months time.
1 is a start atleast.
Need to get better on the field to have a case foe the 2nd extra home game to make it 6 home games at the G.
Its a good outcome. I am one of the few that dont mind the smaller interstate games being at Marvel to get an atmosphere.
Now if we could only play well at the G… that would be a bonus
6 marvel and 5 mcg is a better balance, i know the interlopers from the eastern suburbs prefer the mcg, but marvel is closer to home and easier to get to for the traditional bomber fanbase from ‘Essendon’.
Coming from the south east, Marvel is always a challenge to reach via PT. The MCG is a dream to get to by comparison.
