James Hird — January 2017 onwards (Part 1)

Ripper!

That was 12 years ago. What has he done since then to improve his coaching?

That would be an incredibly stupid move by Scott, in the first game of hird being an assistant, we could be behind at the quarter time siren and the fans will start the ‘hird should be senior coach’ rhetoric.

The best Jimmy could do for the club is to stay away

The best Jimmy could do for Jimmy is to stay away.

But I’d love to see him as club president and I’d love to see a good untried coach replace Brad.

The only way hird back at the club would have a positive influence would be as a board member and inevitably if he was on the board as president.

He’s been out of the coaches box for too long now to be involved in Football Department matters imo.

Even the CEO role is probably beyond his experience

Agitating for Hird to come back now as coach is just creating even more internal and external turmoil -and I am a fan of James. Brad and the board have committed to a full rebuild albeit a little reluctantly. We need to see their vision through for at least 2 more years. Chopping and changing just because Merrett doesn’t have faith (mainly because of history and impatience) will put us back to square one every time.

Agree. As much as I’m a big fan of Hirdy, we’ve got to give Brad till end of next season; we need to see if he can develop a game style without ten million injuries.

Buckley and hird co-coaches.

You know it makes sense.

Or Hird and Crazzy Vossy

I’ve got a feeling Merrett thinks or has been told he will spend less time in the midfield going forward, will need to find a new role forward or back while the kids cut their teeth.
He wants to be a big banana in a finals team while he’s still good enough. Funny thing is I think wherever he goes he will probably end up doing the same thing anyway.

I’d like Buckley as our coach with Hird as an assistant. I think Buckley and Hird have good respect for each other and Buckley has a big enough presence and confidence that Hird being around wouldn’t worry him.

I believe that Scott is actually delivering the change that the club needs.

But he does need to show demonstrable on field progress next year to hold his position.

I also agree with the above that a Buckley and Hird combo, adding in Hinkley, would be incredible

Agree with a lot of what your say except two words, Committed / reluctantly. How is that possible ?

13 losses on the trot is delivering the change we need?

The preference was to build on the run but injuries and defections have made that impossible so they see a rebuild as the only viable option and I think they are prepared to do it properly.

Sit tight be patient, Brad’s not even halfway through his 8 yr plan, no wonder Zach wanted out.

It was pretty obvious they ensured we finished as low as possible to improve draft position. Something that we always seem to stuff up with our mediocre mid table finishes.

To be honest, I respect the fact that Scott was all in on that path

I will only be comfortable with Hird returning if we also bring back Whatever It Takes as the slogan. Then it means we truly dngaf anymore and we can burn bright (or crash and die or whatever).
