James Hird — January 2017 onwards

By the end of this year The Age will be pushing the line that they were on Hird’s side the whole time.

The tide is turning. I would love Hawthorns round 1 banner to say something empathetic and positive about Hird.

Or better still 1x banner for both teams to run through!!!

That would set the tone for the year from opposition clubs, and would hopefully give James a massive lift.

Yeah, maybe it could depict Mitchell with the Brownlow around his neck jabbing a needle into his arm.

you know they are just writing sympathetic articles because the popular feeling towards hird is sympathy, they just write whatever people want to hear, not because they actually give a ■■■■■.
Yep. There's nothing brave at all about coming out with this stuff now. They all stood around Hird in the playground as a group of bullies, mocking in chant. No one stood up to anyone and said what they were doing was wrong. Now it's safe and generates clicks rather than criticism. Cowardly journalism. Too little too late? No, we do need these articles, and Hird is fortunately still with us. But these people aren't suddenly our heroes, they're still weaklings with no moral code.
Very well said jez.

And this is why life in general is a farking joke now.

The media shapes the unthinking bogans attitudes and they lap up the schoolyard mentality of bullying, intimidation and in turn hipocricy that they adopt into their everyday lives.

The media conglomerates have a hell of a lot to answer for for the way peoples morals and ethics have regressed in the past 30-40 years, along with politicians (of course) and our corporate business culture.

And on Hirdy’s current situation, it is not too disimilar to that of what happened to my mother last year.

Although she hasn’t been subjected to an ongoing smear campaign against her good name for a number of years, she has battled chronic back pain for most of her life. This in turn has resulted in her developing deep depression and more recently anxiety of which has heightened her depression even further.

My mum took an overdose of sleeping tablets to try and get rid of all the constant pain and mental feelings that she was experiencing from it all. Just basically looking for some relief. This is all despite having a lot of close family support.

She too like Hirdy, was initially admitted to ICU for about a week until she was transferred to a specialist mental health facility for about the next 4-6 weeks where the staff there were outstanding despite having to do a very tough job under very trying conditions due to the variety of different and sometimes, very challenging mental illnessess that
encountered each day.

It was difficult to visit her at times and see these other poor patients battling away with their problems but I was convinced that mum was in the right hands for the situation that she was in at the time due to the tremendous care and compassion that she was shown by the staff there.

It’s been over six months since my mum was discharged from that facility and only now has she been able to begin to fully recover properly from her incident.

It will be a long, slow and at times a very challenging recovery for James and his family from this terrible time in his life but there is light at the end of this dark tunnel and I’m sure, along with all the support that he has around him that he will be back stronger and better than ever.

I’m confident that with the mental strength and resilience that he showed during his playing career and in the past four years that James will be fine.

My mum’s a tough old duck and has shown some of Hirdy’s fighting qualities to get through her issues and is doing well now thankfully, but it will always require ongoing monitoring and care for her to be able to manage her issues for good now.

I hope that with me sharing this recent experience of my family’s, it has provided a bit of an insight to my fellow Blitzers of what James Hird and his family are currently facing at the moment.

Thanks BillyBewick for telling your mum’s story. I can relate what your mum went through plus what James Hird is going through now. All the best to your mum and stay strong.

Thank You too dmorg as I’ve followed your posts on your battles with PTSD closely on this site, and I wish you all the very best in your recovery too.

I was just thinking about ‘the weight’ Hird has carried for many years.
sigh

I’m not going to commentate on the SAGA crap. All I’m going to say is Hirdy, you’ve got at least 100,000 passionate supporters that cheered you on in your career and they’ll be twice as passionate in cheering you on in your recovery. There will be haters, like there always was, and challenges that seem insurmountable, but every time you came on through on top, and you will again in your recovery in what probably seems like an impossible task.

You amazed us with some incredible feats on the field, you did some inspiring feats and to me remain the best player I’ve ever seen and you brought so much happiness into all our lives. Nothing will take that away. Make no mistake recovering from such lows and depths that you face today will be the toughest assignment you’ll face in your life, but we’re all certain you’ll overcome it just like you did on the field, with courage and care. I myself have faced some very low lows, I fully understand and yet couldn’t comprehend the amount of pure ■■■■ you’ve copped. For those that have been depressed, try to imagine the entire country lambasting you and fans of the club you’ve done everything for, abuse you in public. Just horrible. Rest assured you’ll come out on top, because you’re a champion bloke. Only reason people try and bring you down is because in their eyes you’re perfect, and no one likes perfect people, right? The only mistake you made was that you were too trusting to trained professionals, but name me one person who hasn’t been too trusting at one stage in their lives.

I know Hirdy will be fine because he’s a champion bloke and if we all show him some love the man will get back on his feet. No matter what he does from here I’ll be proud of him. Screw everyone else, just focus on yourself and your family.

By the end of this year The Age will be pushing the line that they were on Hird's side the whole time.

Not if the latest fatpatricks article is anything to go on (I know different rag)

Not entirely sure that if I were Patrick Smith, I’d be rushing to an Essendon game any time soon.

That article by the scumbag smith is possibly the lowest thing I’ve read about Hird and there has been plenty of candidates. I’ve said for years I’m amazed he or Barrett etc haven’t been belted by someone. If this tips someone over the edge to use the scumbags own sentiment - he’ll have only rough it on himself.

That would require him to leave his ivory tower.

He would have to start dieting so he can fit through his door

Yesterday i had a cab driver try to tell me that Hirdy knew all along that the players were getting illegal injections. Well I was 6 pints in at that stage and I’ve got a feeling he won’t do that again in a hurry. I hope the prick’s ears are still ringing.

Another great reason to switch to Uber

Go ■■■■ yourself Smith you disgusting slob

It was only a matter of time before the media took this long overdue moment of introspection as an attack and blamed Hird for their treatment of him.

Go ■■■■ yourself Smith you disgusting slob

YEAH!

what?

Go ■■■■ yourself Smith you disgusting slob

YEAH!

what?

Was saying that Hird is entirely responsible for his current situation and the media/afl have not contributed whatsoever.

lol. what an arsehat.

Smith and Wilson are just mouthpieces for AFL propaganda - both as credible as a North Korean political spokesman.
