James Hird Resigns

So I keep opening the hangar, seeing this thread and I open it wondering if he got a 2 or 3 year extension…

Jimbob sighting in Wodonga today. Sadly this is not my photo - but showed up on my facebook feed.

its not entirely what happened, its when it happened. start looking for another coach, then sack hird after the final round, and only john carpenter would care. but doing it now, total cop out by the board.
So now the timing is wrong.
I think it's fair to question the timing. Even if Hird handed in his resignation, why couldn't they let him coach out the rest of the year? Would it be too much time for the media to try and hound him for his side of the ASADA story?
I don't think Hird is in any condition to coach.

What are you alluding to? Physically or mentally?

I think Red should probably leave it there yeah?

I reckon you can throw in emotionally as well.

Speaks volumes

like littles presser and off air talking to caro.

No doubt you would have managed the whole saga after Evans without doing too much wrong.

would’ve moved us to tazzie so nickyd and fairybread can see games live.

Cranking up the volume

You know, you don’t have have to belittle every single poster that’s hurting.
You feel a certain way, that’s fine.
But ffs, enough.
I don’t care if it’s someone I’ve never agreed with in the history of Blitz, which incidentally goes further than your nine months or so, they have a right to feel any way they choose about this.
They’ve done the hard yards.
They’ve fought.
They showed up when they were asked.

Leave them the ■■■■ alone.

Of course they do, doesn't give them the right to shitcan those who aren't as aggrieved as they are about Hird's departure.

You are bagging every single poster who has a problem with the decision.
Just stop it.

OK stalwart, but can you tell those with a huge problem with the decision to refrain from advising those who are dealing with it differently, that EFC is not worthy of anyone’s membership.

Maybe you could point out exactly who is trying to tell others not to be members. All I’ve read is people expressing their personal anger & disappointment & giving their own reasons for making their own decisions followed by you pretending your opinions are more valid.

You haven’t mentioned the constant bagging of the club’s recent actions and what it now represents; some of us feel compelled to respond as a show of support. My opinion is just like yours, no more or no less vaild.

Yeah, sure.
Don’t do that guys.

Deal, stalwart*?

You’re healing already; that’s good.
won thing that hird could not come to combat is when opppistion coach put a spare man in out forward line he didn't man up spare person just look at the games against crow and north melbourne both game

Yep, that was the big deciding factor in the end.

If you think Hird's dismissal is due some AFL/board/government/illumati consipracy, ponder this: We are 15th on the ladder. We just lost by 19 goals. We have won three games since round three. Those games were against the Lions, Demons and Saints. The Saints have since beaten us by 18 goals.

Some of you are rattling on like Hird’s dismissal is some great injustice. Our performance of late is as poor as I can remember from following the team for 30 years. We are not competitive, and we are getting worse. Yes, the ASAGA has contributed to our form, but that issue also raises questions regarding Hird’s viability as coach, as raised Hird himself.

So what exactly was the reason then for trying to prevent him from coaching at all this year? Are you seriously trying to suggest that at least parts of the board haven’t simply been trying to white-ant Hird from the start? Do you honestly believe the AFL haven’t been pressuring the club to get rid of him? Do you really believe anything relating to Hird over the saga is anything remotely close to justice? FFS even if he personally brew up a batch of TB4 & personally injected everyone it would still not be a crime worthy of the price he’s paid.

I’m not saying there hasn’t been gross misjustices. There has. The whole situation has not been fair to anyone at the club.

But that doesn’t mean that the best thing for the club is to retain Hird as coach. He should be judged on performance, and our performance has been abysmal.

You know, you don’t have have to belittle every single poster that’s hurting.
You feel a certain way, that’s fine.

I agree with this.

I’m not on the same side of the Hird issue as you, but I most certainly can understand why people are upset about it. It’s James Hird ffs, I’m still upset about it and I agreed with the decision.

This is a massive thing to happen to our club, amid three years of massive things to happen to our club. Emotions are going to be high for quite some time yet.

If it spills into every thread and every discussion, that’s one thing. But this particular thread should be just left for people to rant and be emotive. It’s understandable and probably needed.

I don’t see any point in getting into petty back and forth arguments on the topic. Certainly not at this early stage anyway.

its not entirely what happened, its when it happened. start looking for another coach, then sack hird after the final round, and only john carpenter would care. but doing it now, total cop out by the board.

I don't think Hird is in any condition to coach.

Would love Essendon to do the equivalent to “Press Red for Ed” for all our games next year.

Good way to bind the Bomber faithful would be for Hird to be the compere, have Sheeds do special comments and other Bomber greats provide match calling (probably need 2) and game analysis (who knows, maybe we can get Bomber Thompson involved).

Nothing better than having Essendon people call Essendon games and provide insights from an Essendon point of view.

We need to heal as a club and unite everyone and this might be one way to do it.
