Its time for HIrd as coach with Bartel as assistant with Kelly in a football operations role.

That would be a case of the three jimmies.

One of our finest players ever. Superb onfield leader, athlete and game awareness that was at peak level. Deserves all the accolades he receives.

But the continuous black cloud this man has had over the club post-retirement is one I don’t want to particularly revisit. Cult like. Weird.

Had his chance (arguably not once but twice) and no matter where you want to point the finger for everything that went wrong… there needs to be some level of accountability that he was part of it.

Part of what exactly? Go to the SAGA thread. No evidence the players took a WADA prohibited substance and the false story spread by the AFL that the players health was endangered has been disproven each year since 2012. Trying to claim Hird can’t be coach because of the SAGA is disingenuous. Run a proper process, not the one Barham one, and see who the best candidate is.

Boring.

It happened. Whether the experts on here want to believe it or not, countless players lost 12 months of their careers (arguably longer considering the fallout) due to this. Was he (Hird) the deliberate architect of what happened? Of course not. But he was there. He was privy to information. He didn’t show enough diligence.

Arguably more dismal losses in Hird’s last year in charge than this year too.

If his name was ‘John Smith’, you’d be laughed out of the room suggesting he’d get a coaching gig anywhere again.

But because his name is James Hird. The golden boy. The ‘family man’. He is afforded more airtime and consideration due to the nepotistic nature of not just our club (nobody does it better) but an unfortunately high percentage of our fanbase.

stop using the SAGA as a reason to not consider Hird as coach. Run a merit based process. Any blame for the SAGA is on Evans and the board for doing a deal with Demetriou instead of defending the club vigorously. Read the SAGA thread, it’s all there.

Hird shouldn’t be considered because he hasn’t coached anywhere for 10+ years. Yeah yeah minor part time role at GWS for a short period, it doesn’t count.

That’s a defensible argument, the SAGA is not.

And start using his coaching!
