Been a feature of Essendon for a long long while. We don’t rate speed or pace and we would rather play an extra mid on the forward line.

Yes. Yes I do think Chris Scott is worth listening to.
Conversely Dermott kept about 10 Colombian villages in gold plated rolls Royces for the last few decades. You can listen to him all you want.

He was going to sign on the Monday for FC, and we expedited the sacking of Scott the next day and wouldn’t have it
A playing group that’s proven to be rubbish….
It is good to see the media getting around to the idea that our club needs a lot more than just a good gameplan.
They seem to be realising that the next guy is also going to have to manage a toxic playing group as well as a team lead by the problem makers, a fumbly administration, the fans who are either losing interest or becoming increasingly agitated and the power brokers who may or may not have influence at the club but certainly have influence within the media that will control the narrative.
And he will have to do this whilst being anchored to the bottom of the ladder.
SO whilst Hird on paper is not the best candidate to devise and implement a game plan and far from it, he is arguably the only guy who will be able to effectively manage the other challenges, whilst leaving the nitty gritty of the on field strategy to the assistants.
I can see Welsh pairing Hird with Vozzo in a Football manager role and then trying to bring in whichever of Hinkley or Longmire doesnt get the Tassie role. Throw in a few ex senior coaches like Voss, Goodwin, McCartney and some coaching aspirants like McVeigh, Skipworth, or Kelly and the media won’t be able to say the panel is lacking of modern footballing nuance.
Hird biggest flaw is his connection to Dodoro. Which might help stop the - alleged - leaking to the media but comes with the ever present risk of having his slimy greasy jackets back at the club.

Genuine question, why is everyone so keen on Bartel’s involvement? What’s his experience like post career?

I can’t really see a situation where Hird doesn’t become Essendon’s next Kevin Sheedy. A catalyst for change with the force to see it through.
We just need him to retire three years after the last flag instead of contributing to the next 25 years of malaise by holding on a bit too long.

A huge number of posts recently have descended into extended discussions about James Hird.
Basically there are 3 different opinions about Hirdy held by supporters (given below in no particular order).
Opinion 1
Essendon used illicit drugs and James was the architect of the entire thing, knew what was going on and destroyed the club and players lives and deserved everything he got and cannot be trusted as a coach.
Opinion 2
James was a new somewhat naive coach who performed quite well but trusted the wrong people and was poorly advised by the club officials who deserted him when he needed the most help.
Opinion 3
James was a good coach who implemented a professional approach to fitness as previously implemented by other AFL clubs. All injectables were vetted for legality against the code established by ASADA and no positive tests were ever recorded by ASADA. WADA decided it needed to legally change the proof precedent for convictions and reached an agreement with AFL and a code was signed. A similar code was established with the NRL. ASADA investigated Essendon fc and essentially found them not guilty but noted process issues. WADA appealed to the court in Switzerland which handed them a guilty verdict despite a lack of new evidence. All pretty dodgy based on Australian law, but ok with Swiss.
So those are basically the three opinions.
Acceptance of any of them is logical and fair. Any can be defended. Personally I would go with opinion three, but you could choose any to support your feelings.

I’d just love it if we could wrap the saga, Hirdy’s trauma and wrongful blame, the J34 traumas and these subsequent years of wilderness for the club up in a big half ton builders bag and drop it off somewhere very remote or in the middle of the ocean.
And let James Hird come back in clean sheet, restructure the football and coaching setup and lead us out of this morass we find ourselves still in.
But I suppose we can’t.
Bottom line though .. he truly wants to do it so much..
And I’d like him to do it very much and very very well.

It wasn’t okay with Swiss law which has a similar burden of proof as Australian law. The CAS trial was held under rules written by WADA, which was the prosecutor. Under Swiss and Australian law the prosecutor does not get to right the law. WADA rules expressly allow WADA to try a person twice which as Chief Justice French explained is not allowed under Australian law (or Swiss law) be cause of double jeopardy.
