Call their bluff…match it
Question if we match Brisbane’s offer and they don’t want to trade for him, can then a club say Geelong come and offer another free agent deal for him to consider?
Also if that HS article is true then that is poor form from Brisbane, hey Joe we want you but we don’t value you enough to trade for you?
The fact that Fagan (allegedly) had to reassure the players about their role next year indicates not everyone is happy about Daniher coming to the team you’d think.
So Daniher wants to play more ruck but is happy to go to a club that only wants his as a forward? He must really hate us.
It is posturing…
But what do we expect, with both Joe and Saad. In any trade their are other parties that will need to look after their best interests, both player and the recieving club. People demanding a trade to Brisbane for 2 first round picks or Saad for pick 7 and a player are a long way out of touch with reality.
In both cases we are going to have to accept the best thing that we can, and it may not meet up with supporters expectations.
This is very good news. From what i’ve been told, the AFL very much like the idea of Joe playing in Brisbane. They’ve made great progress up there in popularity over the last 6 months. Having Brisbane playing well and adding an entertaining player like Daniher to the mix should make things even better. Similar to the Sydney business model.
This should make it more likely for the AFL to offer the highest compensation to get the deal over the line. I’m sure Essendon and Brisbane are aware of this.
Still best case scenario.
The idea that we can trade out our own FA while bringing in another FA for free is fantasy land stuff.
One can hope.
Anyone even remotely worried we are going to completely Essington this trade period.
Imagine Saad and Daniher walking for nothing and Dodo swinging his old fella in the breeze
Welcome
If we over-reach, and try to ‘win’ the trade there is a chance that this will happen.
Negotiate a satisfactory result for all parties, we need to stop trying to get every last drop out of a trade. It does us no favours in the end, and we may end up with nothing. We are being out-maneuvered so far.
how? media postering isn’t outmaneuvering anything.
Yes and know. I found the Yze announcement surprising, thought it was a done deal.
Only trade we won was Carlilse with Saints giving pick 5
Every other player we traded was unders and i expect no difference this time around
Thank you.
Saints got their man (Carlisle) and drafted a guy at 15 (Gresham) better than the bloke we drafted at 6 lol
Not bad for a dead guy.
Hang around.
Saad - Willing to go to PSD. Essendon going public and making it impossible for him to come back. Understanding Dodo and Essendon are under pressure so losing him for nothing isnt an option.
Daniher - Contract offer so far not up to band 1, Brisbane willing to walk away means he can go to Sydney for nothing, again, leveraging the pressure Dodo is under to not let Joe walk for nothing.
In both cases, our worst case scenario is an increasing possibility.
We have so much more to lose than both Carlton and Brisbane from this position. They hold the power by using both the Kangaroos and Sydney.
Just proves that Dodo is past it
And we paid unders for Saad, Smith and Stringer. You can’t win every trade.
