Joe Daniher. Gone

It’s like when we lost Ryder to Port.

I expect more articles of Essendons toxic culture rearing it’s ugly head during trade week

Not really. Francis was rated by most as a better prospect. Just hasn’t worked to date unfortunately. Fingers crossed he fulfils his talent.

I’m happy to put the boots into Dodo but giving him grief over the Ryder trade seems … unfair.

You can’t really use historical data when trying to figure out what the trigger point is for this year’s compo picks because the salary caps are reduce, so therefore the point for first round compo should be reduced.

For Essendon to get back leverage they will have to say they will either take Saad via PSD or are happy to lose him for nothing. Same with Joe.

Can you imagine the uproar if EFC came out and said they are willing to let them both walk for nothing???

I’m not sure the AFL want players leaving their clubs as free agents on incentivised deals. Totally undermines the integrity of free agency.

As you say it’s all unquoted supposition, but how could this help a finals push?

Joe hasn’t actually nominated Brisbane yet and has other clubs willing to pay him more than Brisbane will. Brisbane is his preference, but there’s a lot of work to be done. He’s still open to other clubs. He doesn’t want to go down the Saad route of making threats, and would rather it be as positive for all parties involved as possible.

He copped some criticism last year, but ultimately when the trade fell through he never publicly complained.

Why can’t they. It’s what I would do. What’s the point in luring somebody as a free agent but then paying for them.

As the system allows for matching I think the buyer needs to be clear what their level of commitment is. If they told Joe we won’t trade a cracker for you, and Joe is fine with that, then no problem.
Commitment needs to go both ways club to player and player to club or the relationship breaks down.

At some stage he is required to nominate a club, only then can we attempt to match, or not.

He clearly prefers Brisbane, but the other options sound like Sydney or Geelong.

If he chooses Sydney, we have barely got a leg to stand on. Our best hope is they pay him enough for band 1, which they wont. Geelong, well it sounds like they are having a crack at Cameron. It is Brisbane. And they will want him for free on as little salary as possible.

Let’s be honest, if we end up with pick 19 for Daniher, last years call not to trade him was a monumental Fark up.

And no doubt they have.

Surely he will work to ensure best deal, surely he wouldn’t fark us.

I don’t believe other clubs can also make FA bid then

If we match and they won’t trade he the gets to choose to either stay with us on matching contract or asks to be traded in a regular sense to another club. Failing that could put himself into draft/PSD

In any case it’d never happen. $650k base x 5 for 26yr old should be band1

Even though it wasn’t a real trade just a hypothetical.

Why would he want his future club to weaken their draft hand?

He will just want the best contract he can get, if that means end of 1st round comp for us then why would he care?

Why are these potential player movements made public prior to the compensation and potential matching of offer being known?
Is this the manager establishing the change of club as a fait accompli?

True.
