I am sick of the Joe palava. I get it that he is ■■■■ scared that his career might be over and he knows that if his groins break down again in a game its all over red rover. So I do feel sorry for him but really I am over it.
Didn’t play in the scratch match.
They don’t want to play him against the Hawks on a four day turn around
He “wants” to play… and yet… here we are on the 24th of August and he has played not a single minute of football in any type of match situation.
I supported the non-trade decision at the time… but it looks more foolish by the day… and shows that we have no clue how to assess injury and manage rehab. No clue.
If the ‘powers that be’ didn’t realise that Joe was so cooked and never going to play again… then we need to look at those powers and wonder why.
Right now we could have had pick 9 running around all year… with another top 5 pick ‘in the bag’ for this years draft… very hard to look at that in isolation and be happy. The non-trade only made sense if a) we thought he would get on the park this year and b) we thought we were a legitimate shot at keeping him.
Time will tell.
Perhaps Whoosha has been told that JD will request a trade and therefore doesn’t want to play him!
He only did a calf in middle of July - 6wks ago?
Injury recovery aside also they’d (and he’d) have wanted to again ensure his conditioning right
Theres no possible great outcome or bad outcome.
Sydney in holding their picks may end up with twice the talent or recruit terribly.
Same with us holding JD. Hes the player you punt on. Because we can recruit good to average footballers any year.
I am in favour of the whole bird in hand beats one in the bush saying.
Turns out poorly for us? Well it was worth a try.
Its not like say GWS letting go of great talent because they have an embarrassment of riches outside their best 22.
Theres no JD sitting in the reserves missing his shot at the big time for us… Or really around the comp.
I’m with ya. I don’t even think of him as being “missing “ anymore. My sympathy is tempered by the fact that he wants/wanted to leave.
Having said that, if he decides to stay AND starts contributing I’ll get behind the big fella.
A perfect time to announce a re-signing. Population downcast, good effort but another loss, finals now gone. How encouraging if her were to re-sign this week!
Relax, guys.
He’s a sneaky in this week against the old rivals.
My sources tell me that I believe we won’t give any hyped up announcement about his return as Joe doesn’t like the media. We’ve taken a cautious approach, and I believe, provided everything goes right, he will play at least one game this weekend.
My sources.
Looking back now the clear better outcome would have been to trade.
Not because he is washed up, or because he may or may not re sign. But because of where we are as a team. Pick 9 and lets say pick 4? Are exactly what we need as a team now. Its looking like we are going to have to go through a full rebuild and that would have been an excellent start.
I think we all over rated our list.
The ■■■■ that went on here last year when we played him to early and subsequently re-injured himself and then hasn’t been seen since, appears to have been forgotten.
Now the club and player appear to be doing it right and making sure he is right, and hopefully not prone to re-injure himself and yet again, criticism from everywhere again.
You just can’t win on here.
10th July
6.5 weeks for a mild calf strain… hmmm yeah.
Haven’t other teams already signed players? Thought the freeze on contracts had been lifted
(Not to detract from the fantastic implication that Joey may have agreed to terms again)
Which would align with that you already said about confidence he is with us next year
#InFogWeTrust
Except he was still a couple of weeks off playing when he did the calf. He had to recover from the calf, then return to ramping up his workload according to the regular plan. It’s quite possible he was over the calf a fortnight ago and is just ramping up his loads again after the interruption.
edit: and fog beat me to it
Don’t let facts get in the way of someone’s conspiracy theories
Maybe.
There is strong evidence to suggest that even if he does play… that he may not be able to sustain a full season ever again.
He is legit my fave EFC player… but I’ll be very surprised if we ever see him back to his best again.
