Joe Daniher. Gone

I think a positive was the leap shown by stewart when he took that big grab on Saturday night.

Same injury as joe and if joe has lost this leap then he is half the player he was

Hope you are right about Thursday… that would be awesome to see.

So best case scenario he was on track to return 3 weeks ago. So in a ‘normal’ season… he was best case going to play 4 games this year. We turned down 2 first round picks in the hopes of him playing 4 games with us?

I thought, and I’m clearly wrong, that he was meant to be cherry ripe hopefully for Round 1-2 this year?

Sort of makes sense- signed up off the record so why take any chances at this point of the season just for less than a handful of games.

What a loss he is.
Fark I miss the goofy giraffe

If we really have signed him up and just waiting for freeze to finish (which I think it already has) then there would be ways to announce that/ hint at that… make it clear.

And upset Gil ?

He was supposed to be fit around the same time as Stewart but had some setbacks/slow progress. The plan would have been for him to play half the season.

If those picks were on the table I’m pretty sure we would have traded him.

Again, these picks were not offered, as suggested a thousand times. Hence we didn’t trade him.

Brisbane announced Charlie Cameron’s contract extension, so I’m sure if an agreement had been reached we wouldn’t be prevented from disclosing it…

yes they were.
Dodoro has quoted “They offered pick 9 and a future first”

“The media was speculating that nine and five were compelling picks,” Dodoro said.
“We made it clear we weren’t interested in nine and five, we wanted players.
“Their final offer was selection nine and a future first-round pick and that wasn’t good enough.
“We made it clear what we needed.”
“It’s not personal, at the end of the day, the club comes first.”

That future first rounder is going to be somewhere between 2-5.

Was this really on the table?

2 first rounders is right. I am sure people were throwing around the 2nd first as the potential pick from Carlton for Papley.

Edit: If the case then yeah. I thought it was another 2nd being thrown around not 2 x firsts

Vague information being posted without any specific details? Must be nearly trade time folks!

Yes it was really on the table. We get #9 from Carlton (the papley trade was solid) and their 2020 first rounder (currently 2-5 ish)… anyone with half a brain realises that Sydney are in a rebuild and likely to finish in the lower half of the table…

So it was always going to be roughly two top 10 picks for an injured superstar that may, or may not, get back to his best.

The deal should have been made… especially if we had the inside knowledge that were would going to get a month of football out of him at best. What a clusterfark

Yeah,

Look I dont mind that we kept Joe and hopefully he comes good.
But the club should have looked at that scenario and understood that 2 first round picks in the top 10 were far superior for our club going forward than keeping an injured Daniher who may or may not even stay at the end of the day.

It tells us the club honestly thought we were a crack at a premiership in the next couple of years.

I’m not worried about him getting back to his best, He showed last year off a short pre season what he could do, he just broke down again, hope the surgery was successful, if he gets over his injury he’ll still be an absolute weapon.

It’s all about finding that confidence in his body and staying fit.

I would absolutely love him to get back to his best… I can’t see it. Long time out of the game… that is a lot of development missed… He will be on to his fourth senior coach… with yet another new game plan (if he stays of course)…

Will be very interesting to see how he goes… So far we haven’t actually seen him play a game and recover and play another game without significant set back for several years… so a lot of left to navigate.

Durability is the question mark I agree, his game will be there if he gets fit. I just hope it’s for us.

Imagine all the blitzers on here saying Hird is cooked and should retire when he did his navicular.

Players come back from major injuries.

Schwartz came back from his third knee reco and played 100 games.

I think it would be difficult, but not impossible, for Joe and the club without seeing him play, to have already agreed on the value of Joe’s (say) 2021 one year contract.
If he gets through 5 games and is rusty but with no medical/fitness setbacks then he is worth more after that, than what he is now.
His management may want to wait, but there could be agreement he stays (or will seek a trade again).
I think he’ll stay for at least one more year, but if he and the chickens both want him there, then he will get there this time without much fuss.

I generally back Fogdog with having good info. Hope he’s right on this one.

I actually subscribe to the notion it’s not great PR to announce re-signing him before he’s played any kind of game. The media hyenas would just jump on an ask why would we resign him if he can’t get on the park. If he plays and has a decent crack it looks much better announcing a re-signing.

Wait and see I guess!
