Probably be careful if you do start adding 3rd party services. Some have been done for stealing your data

I once got a call asking me if I wanted to borrow money. I said sure! He asked for what? I said to buy drugs. You need $100,000 to buy drugs? Not for me, I was gonna sell it. He hung up. I was disappointed…

The unfortunate side effect of the scam calls - every time I get a call from someone with an Indian accent, I am expecting a fraudulent activity.

Friend got a call, husband injured in car accident, taken to nearest hospital. Hospital was private, wouldn’t treat him without fund transfer. Her phone was somehow locked, could not contact him or the hospital.
She worked out it was a scam when she asked for the location of the accident. There was no way he could have been there at the time.

That should be reported to ACSC.

I found Pixels have the best autoblocking for spam buIIshit, I literally never even knew when they tried to contact me

Samsung has been decent but definitely don’t get everything

It was in Jakarta.

Samsungs is 3rd party and hooks in between the first and second ring. IIRC

Time to ditch the old business mode of answering calls with your (full) name.
Get the caller to identify themselves

Who answers with full name in a work settings. It’s always hi you’re speaking to x of travla

There’s the old clip of Spike Jones and his City Slickers.
Husband takes the call, keeps saying ‘You don’t say’. Hangs up, the wife asks the name of the caller. Husband responds ‘He didn’t say’.

I did start doing this, then realised most of the calls went to my voicemail, which also has my name - so unless I change both it’s a bit pointless. Up to me I guess.

Another weird one I had was a ‘marketing’ firm in India kept looking at my LinkedIn profile every day. I’d block the individual then someone else from the firm / company would look at my profile. Started to slow down to every few days, but kept happening over the course of around 2 years. I’m sure it was to harvest information on me, but can’t for the life of me figure out the angle. Anyone else had something like this?

How do we report Dodoro for being a fraud?

Most of the scams are incredibly obvious, but I’ve been getting texts from Linkt (Citylink) that look pretty genuine. I had to log in and look at my account to find that there was nothing owing.

Got left this as a voicemail (translated via Google) from some random number just before

I have no idea about the accuracy of the translation, though.

If I don’t recognise the number, I decline the call. If they’re serious, they’ll leave a voicemail or a text.
