But…but, we only got 53 for Stringer
Stoopid Rosa
We are going to be last years Hawthorn and in process prove the doubters wrong by winning a final
I thought we would make top four last year. I was silly.
Think that if we start the season bad in 2025 we may be bottom four. At least I won’t be shocked…
Look at 2013! If there ever was a year we would have won a final, it was then.
I was delighted with the pre-season victory over Geelong. It was an excellent performance.
But…
Geelong always reminds of one key reason why it will be a long journey back to the top of the competition: We have little physical presence.
Of our talls, Draper is the only intimidating figure. McKay doesn’t really use his size to physically dominate his area. All these following talls are pretty slim and play “fair”-style football:
- Reid
- Ridley
- Jones
- Cox
- Bryan (somewhat in the English mould)
- Caddy (just a kid)
Our midfield is still relatively small and has to run around the opposition, not through:
- Merrett
- Martin
- Parish
- Caldwell
- Tsatas
- Hobbs?
- Setterfield probably stands out amongst this bunch for at least having some size.
I’d say Redman and now Prior have a bit of mongrel coming out of HBF…Shiel and McGrath prefer to weave through traffic…none of them are a brute like Tom Stewart. Or Dangerfield at the other end.
Durham has the aggression, tick, he’s going to be so important…Stringer gone
…Perkins and Langford focus on the skill of their play…Edwards was likened by someone to Mitch Brown, and I can see elements.
…I’m just preparing myself. I think there will be games this year where things aren’t going our way, and we simply don’t have the contested-footy-physicality to wrestle our way back into the match. Particularly our forward line: 2MP/Langford/Perkins/Gresham/Caddy (kid)/ Kako (kid) could really get bullied IMO. We actually NEED Draper and Durham up forward to bring the physical fight.
An inconvenient injury to say Draper, and what should we do? Edwards in? Visentini/Gerreyn before they are ready? Goldstein as a forward? Throw McKay forward? I think we will always need to maintain some forward line aggression/presence.
I’m happy with the 2 practice games performances. It’s sets us up well.
But people getting over excited over 2 games is classic Essendon supporters.
We’ve continually watched this team look the goods in the first half of the season, then completely bomb in the second half…… how anyone can be flinging the lid off is beyond me.
Teenagers can’t be expected to put in a full afl season playing top level footy.
So as exciting as it is to see our next gen on display, my expectation is their performances will fade toward the end of the year.
The important bit is not to have a crisis again if we have another slide at the end of the year.
Sure we might go like hawthorn. But I’d have thought most young sides fade. It’s the mature sides which peak from August on.

Come on man, the clapper who started this thread is still proud of the boys today and there is plenty of upside in this group
2 rounds in and those BLITZ USUALS have been proven right already
Hmmm
Well aren’t we feeling quite chuffed after 2 rounds.
It’s like you were champing at the bit to circle this back.
Informs a lot in all honesty.
Yeah im delighted that we’re still ■■■■. I feed off that ■■■■
Clearly
Well, we have continually been proven correct about this spineless club and the pathetic list.
I’m sure it will all magically turn for us one day though
You did say 10 years for the magic to do its thing so you’ve got a lot of heckling in front of you.
Just digressing, are you Polish by any chance ?
Some good mates who are Polish but not me.
I absolutely did say 10 years to clean up Dodoro’s mess and thats if everything goes well. Tassie might throw a spanner in that timeline
OUR CLUB
Merrett always plays his best
Caldwell’s hurt, he needs a rest
Kako and Caddy doing well
Cox got injured in his sleep (ah)
Stringer got a better deal, he didn’t hang around
Our team, in the middle of the park
Our team, in the middle of the
Our club, it draws a crowd
There’s always bad umpiring
And the booing is quite loud
Our team was once so proud
Now nothing ever changes — mediocrity’s allowed
Our club, in the middle of the pack
Our club, in the middle of the
Our club, in the middle of the pack
Our club, in the middle of the
(something tells you that you’ve got to move away from it)
Durham does so much hard work
Draper’s side-goals make us smirk
Martin playing back is cruel
Shiel’s kicks to forwards often miss (ah)
Wright, Guelfi and Laverde have all seen better days
I remember way back then when everything was true and when
We would have such a very good time, such a fine time
Such a happy time
And I remember how we’d play, simply turn the game our way
Then we’d say nothing would come between us—
We were premiers!
Once again our captain’s best
He’s sick and tired of averageness
Our percentage is too low once more
Supporters moaning in their sleep
Is the coach earning his keep, will he hang around?
Our club, in the middle of the pack (repeat ad infinitum)
Thinking like that is madness.
Lol, exactly.
