Not true.
when has the list been expected to win finals in the last 10 years? and not the clubs messaging but your own take?
âBut then I remember speaking to âBomberâ Thompson on the Gold Coast about an hour before the draftâ - Dodoro
An hour before the draft?
Itâs pretty clear Thompson is issuing instructions at the actual decision.
He canât even make eye contact because he knows Dod still wants Lobb.

There is a lack of star power about this list.
But I donât even think that is our biggest issue. If Reid becomes the next Bontempelli, it wonât make any difference to our list, as 90% of the players donât work hard, train hard, understand the game plan, or buy in to the game plan.
Otherwise your just left with another Zac Merrett and a sh*t list.
To lift standards, you need bring players in to the club who will drive those standards.
Trade players in
No more 18 year olds picked under dodoro. We cant keep blowing these picks
Trade out, get a new list manager next year
What sort of players do you think are available from West Coast?
Not sure. All of their old guys are cooked. Weâd be stupid to even entertain someone like yeo

Keep seeing it through your tinted glasses.
Why donât you go with Dodoro went rogue Getting a tiny mid when the list build plan was to get a KPF, and now we have no KPF and a midfield that is too small?
I mean you can spin it any way you like. Dodoro clearly preferred Merrett as a prospect, but thought from a list build perspective they really needed a big. They then roll the dice that Brown gets to our next pick, and lose on that one.
So the learnings. At that time they at least had a list build plan. They were prepared to go away from it if they rated a player highly enough. Dodoro doesnât recruit on his own, itâs consultation and discussion.
Thompson was providing advice, sure. But how can you make any judgement about him issuing instructions, or ânot being able to make eye contact because he knows Dod still wants Lobbâ. That is fantasy land stuff there. They likely discussed the likelihood of getting the tall later. They all looked pretty happy with the choice.

If not for the saga definitely 2013-2015 (and maybe beyond if we get it sustainable).
2018 & 2019 if not for injuries and the stupid game plan changes. We did alright both years with almost nothing out of Raz or JD.

We need big bodies, players who come from a club with good discipline. Competitive too.
I mean you can spin it any way you like
Yes, you can.
Forward line.
Two dominant forwards, plus some quick opportunists.
I was just looking back at goalkickers, and Matthew Lloyd dominated the list for about 12 years. He was such a good forward and straight shooter. Stats show Lloyd and Coleman being the only players reaching 100 goals regularly.
Lucas was great support as well, as he could kick over 60m -he won the goal kicking one year as well.
Backline.
Two big bodied dominant backman, like Hurley and Hooker to manage the opposite forwards. This could include Ridley as he is a gun, not so big bodied.
Two intermediate ball players, like say McGrath, Laverde, etc, to be link men.
The rest are opportunist runners, like McKenna, Redman etc.

Will be interesting to see if we replace some of the older experienced players we have lost this off season or go purely for youth.
So we had the 5th youngest list and the 4th least experienced list, and if weâd won one less game would have finished 14th (5th last).
Which of Saad, McKenna, Daniher and Fantasia would you call a leader? Fantasia is the closest to a leader on that list
Daniher & Fantasia had leadership potential.
After 2017 Danihers career as on a upwards trajectory, could have been captain of the club, as much claim as Zach Merrett had at the time.
Fantasia kept getting voted in as a leader, but due to him wanting out declined.
There really isnât much difference between ourselves and the teams around us (North Melbourne, Sydney, GWS, Carlton, St.Kilda, Adelaide)
All the current teams who are in a log jam between 5th & 12th (except North Melbourne).
I donât buy into it much. I think this is way overstated, and clubs make far too big of a deal about age and games playedâŚ. And just use it as an excuse.
There really isnât much difference between ourselves and Sydney,
Sydney delists and Rookies a player (Bret Kirk) and he goes on to play 241 games and captain the club to a premiership.
Essendon delist and rookie a player and they get delisted within the next 2 years.
There really isnât much difference between ourselves and the teams around us (North Melbourne, Sydney, GWS, Carlton, St.Kilda, Adelaide)
What?!? Youâre lumping us in with Carlton GWS and Sydney?
Their lists are so much further developed than us itâs not even close.
Our lack of senior leaders is stark at the top end compared to these teams.
Will they drop off before we hit our peak is anyoneâs guess but we shouldnât think itâs a given that our current group of 24-27 year olds will naturally mature into the quality leaders weâre screaming out for.
