Ruckman is the most overrated position in the comp
Win the contested ball, kick, tackle and runâŚâŚand thatâs about it!
If youâve been living under a rockâŚ.we need small forwards
Lohmann & Ah Chee 4 goals each in the grand final. We currently have zero AFL standard small forwards (Guelfi is passable as a defensive role player).
Draft Joe Berry & Kako with our first two picks and lock Jayden Davey in a gym with Zach Merrett over the offseason. Then do it all over again next year and draft/trade for more because we need at least 3 quality goal kicking smalls IMO.
Durham and Caldwell have had 1 decent season.
History tells us that theyâll drop off this season.
Parish & Ridley are just as inconsistent as every other player on the list.
Reliably injured. Sure.
Thatâs Parish and Ridley.
I was pleasantly surprised with his season. He would sometimes play incredibly deep in the backline and saved our bacon more than once per game, but was also very solid up and down the wing.
Iâm looking to see him really settle into his role next year as first choice wing.
Durham and Caldwell have been good for a couple of years and stepped up this year. I donât believe there is any indication they will sink backwards. At their age ticking over the 50 game mark we should fully expect that what we saw last season is the minimum going forward.
Unfortunately I agree with the assessment on Parish and Ridley, lots of recent soft tissue injuries making them unreliable.
Yeah nah, theyâve been serviceable prior to this season.
In fact Iâd say Caldwell had been pretty disappointing.
The jury is out on if both of them can continue backing it up each yearâŚâŚ because most of our players get the big contract, and then get comfortable with their lot in life.
We canât fix them, maybe someone else can, Trade.
You do realise trading guys in the middle of being injury prone is selling low compared to their trade value based on their talent level. If you canât get fair value for them youâre better off keeping them and try and restore their health.
A restored Ridley and Parish are great assets to the team and I would suggest a far better bet for improving our performance on the field than a prospective second round pick in any draft.
Question for the forum.
Youâre building our list and have both cap space and draft pick value to play with.
Which positions on the field are you putting your value in? I.e. HBF, Big Body Mid, ruck KPF?
This is a concept from NFL where they really throw value/capital at QB, LT, WR, Edge Rishers and Corners. TEs are growing in that sphere. But the rest they tend to find guys good enough. RBs have long been a debated and wavering position to throw value at.
Whatâs the areas of AFL that have the same need for value and which can you cover with a plodder who plays a role?
Just ask Brodie Grundy, lost 2 grand finals against backup ruckman.
5 best drafts (total games played) outside of Suns/GWS innaugral sides.
1999+2001 made the Geelong sides 2007+
Bring in as many small forwards as possible.
Mids with elite disposal win you games of football.
Small forwards win you games. The pressure they apply and ability to create goals is what Richmond, Collingwood and now Hawthorn are basing their games around. Ball use is the other important factor.
That very harsh. Durham was pretty good on the wing or used around the ground as a utility. Caldwell was also good when played in position and not lumped in the forward half to play the darcy parish midfielder â â â small forward role.
Durham and Caldwell both play with 100% intent, and show displeasure when things dont go there way, plus both are willing to take the shot.
They may be limited with ability but bring the intent you want to see by all the 22. We need them to take another step next year up to Merrett, and bring the tags, Durham already kind of did that mid year, he was our msot dangerous mid, and got the clamps some times.

I dont think either are limited in their ability tbh
